MX 13 and 11 is NOT made by Cummins, Now Paccar DOES market the smaller Cummins as Paccar PX 9 (ISL Cummins) PX 8 (old 8.3 Cummins) and PX7 (6.7 Cummins)
ISX or the MX 13?

Mx13 is part American part EU.
Nothing to do with MAN or Cummin or Volvo.
Mechanicly sound and proven (been around since 06)
Afterthreatment system is like any post EPA10 engine it's weakest point.
To the OP
What is your driving style like?
Do you want to be the.first one on top off the hill?KANSAS TRANSIT Thanks this. -
I am looking hard at the MX11, lightweight and 430/1650 perfect specs for us, very close to old ISM Cummins. -
Boo........ Paccar.
Local dealer always has a shop full of them all with some sort of aftertreatment problems....
@Guntoterfargonaz and Diesel Dave Thank this. -
In my younger days fast and loose like a lot of my womenz, But now slow and steady wins the race.
Im not looking to win any races, im looking for reliability, longevity. if the truck is in the shop all the time im not making any money and it could put me out of business. The CATS and Cummins engines I know, MX 13...I dont know, Hence This Post, Theres an 2012Mo Yr. MX 13 with 398K on the clock running a 13 speed, thats had to have a new head and a host of other issues done under warranty and now its on a lot up for sale. The warranty is up in 06/17 and I like the truck, its spec'ed for what I want to do and the price is right where i feel comfortable spending. How reliable is the after treatment system is that motor?daf105paccar Thanks this. -
Is it true that the ISX is better in 2014 through 2017
mxpx148 and ChicagoJohn Thank this. -
from my understanding YES...model year 2013 ISX mc871 went thru some design changes that improved the regen systems, I havent seen anything in my price range yet, those trucks are going for about 70-85K ball park in the used market, and thats a bit out of my price range now. I want to spend about 50ish for my 1st truck, so that puts me in the Mo Yr. 09-13

How many hours on the engine?
Oilsamples done?
Reason for the new head?
How reliable is the aftertreatment?........................any answer i give you is a guess.
You can have 99 trucks that never have issues,if you are the owner off that one that breaks down all the time..............
3 months warranty is not a long time, any possiblility the dealer will extend it?(assuming it is at a Peterbilt dealer)
@Belials can you give the numbers off break downs ISX vs MX to the OP?(OP,belials is a warranty claims manager at a Paccar dealership,he can give you the right info so you can make a calculated gamble) -
Is Volvo even an option @SoCal Trucker ?
If so look for or a 2010 D13 10speed or 13speed. -
Cm871 was pre-def. 2011 is the newest model year you'd find one but most were cm2250's by then. Cm2350's came next.
