Really now; How many people...

I had zero experience unless you count driving a duece-n-a-half 27 years ago during my hitch in the Army. I don't count it not in the least

 

My Dad was a trucker and I went on many runs with him. He taught me to drive. The hardest thing during training for me was learning to shift with the clutch. Way back when he taught me, double clutching was considered a bad thing and it was hard to get it changed in my head to pass the CDL test and pacify my trainers.
Unfortunately, he didn't teach me a lot of backing. Basics yes, but no finesse. All his tractors were International transtar cabovers too, a different animal than the century class freightliner I drive now. I've been driving for 4 months now, sometimes it takes a lot of pull ups and even once in a while a couple of complete new set ups, but I have yet to hit anything, and so far I've gotten it where I wanted it eventually.
I grew up on a farm, but backing things with a tractor that turns on a dime and backing wagons is completely different that backing with a road tractor and a 53 foot trailer.

 

I have not had any formal truck driving experiance and I am looking for a truck driving job.

 

I had drove a few times, just bringing trucks back to the shop after it broke down, before my test. Finaly I went and upgraded my CDL B(which i had since HS) to A, and jumped in a truck a few days later, no training, no schools, no nothing

 

I had a chauffeur's license which only meant at the time that you had taken the written chauffeurs test which is what was required at that time to drive a truck. When the CDL came around I grandfather claused in & have never been to a training class or taken a road test since I've driven.

To qualify for the grandfather clause you had to have written proof that you had been driving for the past two years, have a current physical, & you had to take all the written test that you would need. I took the CDL, air brakes, hazmat, tanker, & doubles/triples written test & got all the endorsements.

 

I got my license 3 years ago. Drove a ten wheel dump truck for 6 mo. A strailght truck for 1 yr and 8 mo. and a Belly dump for 6 mo.

There is not enough work locally so i am waiting to ship out OTR tomorow or wensday.

 

Started as a kid driving farm trucks, then in the military.

 

Never had any expierience when I went into training, did really good shifting through the gears the first time I drove. Never had a problem backing, grew up driving around pickups with car trailers all the time, and had a job for 3 and half years hauling around a car trailer and small box trailer. Its not that hard once you get into it.

 

I had very-very little experience with tractor trailers prior to the Class A Driver Training Program offered by the local technical college. What little experience I had consisted of peering in the windows of new and used tractors at area dealerships – no driving experience what-so-ever. I had never driven anything larger than a small U-Haul box truck or a one-ton pick up.

I completed the Driver Training Program, passed the required tests on 9/25/08 to obtain my Class A license. Now I am searching for my first transportation job with companies that will take drivers who are still wet behind the ears.

 

I had no experience whatsoever before going to a local truck driving school. I did well in school and passed my road test with flying colors. Heading out for company training this Sunday.
