Anyone did DIY on cab mount bracket ?

So just losing air overnight is bad for them ?

 

It is bad for every suspension component. Cab bracket and torque bar are not designed to have so much swing. The bushing rubber is the weakest part.
Ask me how I learned it.

 

Just replaced my cab bushings. Took me about 3 hours with some research work and some beer.
What you need if you decide to DIY.
1 Good 1/2 impact wrench and 30mm socket DeWalt or Milwaukee
2 30 mm wrench to hold bolts from inside the frame
3 24mm socket and wrench
4 Car jack to lift cab
5 4x4 post to support cab
6 3-piece L jaw coupling 2 1/2 " OD ( some grinding require to fit in rubber) from ebay
7 Shop press or oil jack 5 -10 ton
8 Good friend help to drink beer

 

I was wondering how come you went with a Aftermarket Setup, instead of the OEM Volvo Bushings, and did you notice a difference in the ride vs. the worn out OEM bushings.

I just replaced the cab bushings on my 2001 Volvo, but it didn't fix the problem of the rear of the cab body that's shifted to the right.

I also noticed the left and right side 1 1/2 year old Gabriel Fleetline vertical cab shocks are toast.

The top bushings on the shock eyelet somehow worked their way out, so the shock is basically just along for the ride, with the cab air springs doing all the work.

I have the OEM Volvo cab shocks that I'm going to pick up this afternoon to replace the defective Gabriel Fleetline.

BTW, Gabriel only gives a one year warranty on Commercial Heavy Duty Truck Shocks, so I got screwed.

I haven't decided if I should keep the 4 cab shock system or convert it to the torque rod.

If anyone has the 4 cab shock system and plans to replace the horizontal shock with a OEM Volvo, don't buy it from Volvo for $114 each.

The original horizontal ones were made by Sachs, I had a look at the replacement OEM Volvo ones and they are in a Volvo box with a Volvo part number, but are stamped Monroe and painted black.

You can purchase the same replacement part from Monroe for $58.00 each.

Now the ride is much better no shaking from side to side.

 

I bought the two vertical cab shocks yesterday from the Volvo Stealership, as they're not available for my particular model based on Monroe's Cross Reference to the OEM Volvo Part Number on their website.

I opened up the box and they are painted black and are stamped with Monroe on the dust shield with the Volvo part number.

The Monroe's are gas charged, vs the hydraulic filled Gabriel Fleetline that are presently on there.

They were about $40 each, so now to get the rear of the cab aligned and the cab shocks installed, hopefully they'll do a better job and last longer than the Gabriel Fleetline.

 

So today I finally had the time to install the vertical OEM Volvo Cab Gas Shocks (which are replacing the Gabriel Fleetline shocks that are presently installed but the bushings are no longer pressed in the shock eye anymore.)

I R&R both Cab Shocks myself and everything is good, actually by installing the OEM Volvo replacements, it centered the rear of the Cab so it longer sits to the right anymore.

All in all, replacing the front Cab Bushings fixed my problem and I would recommend it to any Volvo Owner to eventually get them replaced, especially if your Cab is off center.

 

Can you get the monroe psrt or shock number and post them for us?

 

The horizontal shocks for the Volvo VNL is Monroe Part# 66108.

I bought mine on Amazon a few weeks ago for about $40 each, as supposedly they are temporarily not available from alot of Aftermarket suppliers that I contacted.

Monroe may be discontinuing them as a Aftermarket replacement as they are currently the OEM Supplier for Volvo and the Stealership list price for the Volvo OEM, (Made by Monroe) is $120 each.

I would try to source a set ASAP if you are planning on replacing yours.

 

Just an interesting video I just watched , ( sorry,in russian) @Time 14.00 shows the tool needed to press the bushings correct without damaging during installation. As i mentioned above, it happened to me, took it a small shop, they pushed the new ones in with a simple circular rod, truck was shaking worst with new cab bushings. I did the job again with bushings preinstalled in cab mount.
