So I am yet another posting a thread looking for the best company/experience for a rookie. I am located in BC have my learners and will be training with a great veteran trucker for a mostly non otr local-ish company (flatbed).
After learning the ropes and getting my CDL/Class 1 (few months or more if I am a fast or slow learner), I would like to move into Tank trucking, moving hazardous materials or any other field that will pay me the most.
Points:
- I would like to know which specific type of trucker brings in the most $. Short term and long term (Long term meaning more $ w/experience) would be great.
- I am willing to get any certificates or training that is needed for specialty fields.
- I am willing to move/live anywhere.
- I do not require any home time. Willing to stay out for months at a time.
- I am willing to run US
-Dollar figures I can expect would be awesome as well.

The key is to find a place that does not stop for weather.
You will want some experience under your belt as well as an open mind when someone is willing to train you.
All employers are very watchful of the know it alls......they are the dangerous and expensive ones.
Never forget you never stop learning.
I've been off and on road since 1998 and still feel like a rookie at timesKeylan Thanks this. -
Where in bc? Lower mainland has trimac, Ken Johnson. Scamp and denwill but those aren't really long haul. Westcan. There's also a lot of small companies down here hauling fuel but all city work. Home every night anyways.

Biggest money is in highly specialized freight. Find a good flatdeck company to build some skills for 2-3 years, then start moving into heavy haul. Tanker is probably going to top out at some point. Big moves only get bigger.
Consistent miles is going to be a lot more useful to you at this point than highest rate. Making 3000+ miles a week at 35 cpm is better than 1500-2000 at 40-42. You also get more experience more quickly.
