If I had a tractor trailer and you had something to carry in my truck from somewhere USA to elsewhere USA across the nation, you give me one bid. call it 5000 dollars for the whole thing.
It is my job to decide if I can make a profit on 5000 dollars for your load of widgets considering all the expenses of that run plus whatever overhead I have each month. IF so, You pay me the money when the load is delivered. And if you are a good boy you might want more loads run, that makes it possible to build a relationship. -
First mention of FSC how do you Guys get that! Do you try to add it to the rate? Or is it something that most shippers feel is included? I always thought it was paid on top of rate industry wide.

Only on the one direct coustemer that pays mileage. We have a set rate no mater how far plus there FSC. The gave us the rate every year in June I think and we either except it or decline it for the year. The FSC changes every quarter I think. Currently at .26 I think. The have a $500.00 minimum and there is no negotiation. They email a load over and we take it if we have a truck available. We usually get about 3 days notice. We are there backup carrier. There are 2 house carriers that get first dibs. The rate is fair but not fantastic. Sucks on 300 miles and a great rate on 1000 miles but usually leaves us in the middle of nowhere USA.
Every other load I haul is a negotiated rate all in including FSC. Even some of our other coustemers. One seems to know spot market rates to the penny. I don't haul for her unless she is in a pinch and she comes off some money. I can get better rates off the loadboard. Another two don't ship but 20 or 30 loads a year and we quote them on a load by load basis and we get most of thoese loads. We had another coustemer for years that paid by the mile plus FSC that we ran a dedicated route for but they are on some cheep ### trucks now. Good riddnince was loaded every Friday night and took at least 8 hours to load every week. Multi stop east coast load.Last edited: Mar 29, 2017
