Picked up the painted bunk yesterday, staged it at my friend's shop so that we can mount it Monday, using his 45 ton rotator wrecker with a spreader bar to make it simple to pick and set...

Paint came out remarkably nice.

 

That is an awesome color.

Pretty excited for an older fella yesterday. We made it road worthy for the first time in two months, and I duct taped a piece of poly over the big hole and drove it about 15 miles north to the guy that painted the bunk's shop, so he can paint the back of the cab over the weekend for me.

Then Monday morning about a mile from there, we are picking and setting the bunk on the truck (finally) with a wrecker at another friend's shop, so we don't scratch it with the forklift as we have been using to do it for the dry fits. Then...I drive back to the shop where I did all this and tie all the loose ends together, like put power to the bunk, put the boot in the opening, etc.

Put stainless air cleaners on her yesterday...That woke it right up.

 

Looking good driver. That's going to be a nice ride.

I'm sure the pictures don't give the truck.. total justice. Your truck looks great. Enjoy watching the progress.

 

Being that truck's been around a while in salt, etc. NM, my opinion would be to strip it down to bare aluminum and fiberglass and use a good primer/sealer, then it's your call about paint. Base coat clear coat is the nicest shine, but tough if you ever need to touch up a fender or something compared to single stage paint. I would recommend getting the bullwork all done too, before you paint or you will without a doubt scratch something, somehow...I just broke the BRAND NEW passenger side windshield yesterday I put in a month ago by accident, so it happens.

I'd do all the drilling, banging and thrashing and when completed, prep and paint the frame and components myself. That way it's a sure bet you'll be happy in the end. Just my .02...

 

Tuesday 3-28-17...bunk mounting day...40 ton rotator with a spreader bar made this a real simple deal. One hour and it was on.
