So I was delivering a couple of skidded coils today in Fremont Ohio. While putting my gear away I start pulling off my straps to wind then up. One of my straps was fouled up in with the landing gear so I gave it a tug by flipping the strap and the hook jumps up and comes flying at the side of my knee. Now I've got this bruise and large knot about the size of a golf ball about 2 inches below the bend point in my knee asking the outside of it. Hurts like hell. Hit me hard enough that it almost took me down.

Of all the things I've done that are stupid...

Punched a plate glass window severing the tendon in my middle knuckle on my right hand.(still hurts to this day)
Almost hung myself on playground equipment with a peice of twine string (hey I was 7)
Showing off my drifting skills in a rear wheel drive station wagon sliding into a 12ft deep ditch that was flooded with 8 ft of water.(my dad beat the hell out of me for that)
Playing five finger fillet while drunk (don't ask)
Trying to out drink my father, I made it to 10 rum 151 and cokes while he was on 15 gentleman Jack and Coke.(I thought I had won since my liquor was harder, I find out the next day this was not the case... See above)
Going on shore leave with my buddy Clint while in Souda Bay Crete. We last recall it being about 11pm local time, we woke up to the sounds of shore patrol bringing us back to the docks while missing shoes and about $300 cash.

I've got so many more mistakes. But bring that I'm already battered and bruise from my life I think I need to think about what I'm doing before I actually do it.

I got mad at my boss at my first job and punched a Snap-on toolbox loaded full of tools. Shattered every bone in my hand. The toolbox won, it moved about a foot, with the caster wheels locked. Didn't even dent it.

    One of my finer moments:

I hauled farm equipment for a JD dealer. I'd pick up tractors at the farms, bring them to the shop for repairs. Had a 2350 tractor one day with a dead battery, among other things. I got back to the shop late, and left it sit on the trailer overnight. Next morning I go to unload it, and of course the battery was dead. So I hook jumper cables to it and try it, nothing. Solenoid was bad, so I was going to jump across the starter, but it was covered in grease and wouldn't make contact. So like a dummy I sprayed it with starting fluid to clean it off. Big mistake. As soon as I stuck the screwdriver against the starter terminals, a ball of fire erupted in my face. Grease on the side of the engine began burning, which melted some small oil lines, and some wires. Thankfully I got the fire out before it got too bad.

We all learn.......some faster than others.
(Or as the Old Guy used to say; "Live and DON'T learn."

Kicked a stone wall at 16 - over girl.
Remodeled inside of my refrigerator at 21 with my boot - over a girl.
Smashed a wooden crutch over a lamp at 23 - over a girl.
Start to see a pattern developing here?
    Drink more.........Girl less.

The one I like is when you have a 20' chain over somthing big,
and you pull it over the top to take it off,
and the weight of the chain gets it all moving -
and the hook on the other end goes by your head at 60 MPH.

September 12, 200. I had a chain work loose on some steel I was hauling. Went back to tighten it up a bit. We used the jaw breaking snap binders at that point. So I grabbed my cheater pipe, tightened it by a chain link and began pulling. I was in really good shape at that point in my life, solid muscle actually. But none of that mattered when the cheater pipe got away from me. I watched as it flew about ten feet in the air and came back down on my head. Fortunately I was wearing a hat, but still ended up with quite a gash on my head. I wrapped rags around my head and continued on with my day. I got more than one dirty look that day.

Maybe it's just my finely tuned self-preservation skills, but my first thought would have been GET OUT OF THE WAY.... Or at least be in the process. Lol
