Another thing that is important, old man McElroy himself was involved in the medical insurance business for most of his life. It's where he made his money before starting the trucking company. He will look at whatever bills your atty present to their atty and SCRUTINIZE to the $.01. Get your car paid, bills paid, then HIT EM HARD for the pain/suffering/and FUTURE medical bills. Don't give in.

 

Thanks for that info. I did not know that. So far I have paid all my bills though it was a struggle. Car was finally paid and everything is in order. Mental anguish is hard to prove I guess and I could not leave the house for over 2 months. I still see a psychiatrist. Oh well, like I said I really do appreciate that little tidbit. ...didn't say I didn't believe you, all I asked for was a web link to a news story. Big truck accidents apparently make for "great" news stories as the local T.V. news stations usually seem to make big headline reports about them whenever they happen. I listen to news all day long in the truck and I usually hear at least one or two tractor-trailer related accident stories from across the nation per day. As I drive down I-95 through Baltimore/D.C. routinely, at least once a week some SWIFT driver flips his rig and ties up traffic for miles, so I know all about it. The fact remains, however, that for a company the size of McElroy, the accident rate is by far way lower than what I have heard/read/seen about other similar sized companies.

As I stated before, if your case has merit and the McElroy driver was at fault, then I am sure you will prevail. But answer this question honestly - Is it your desire to see ALL THE OTHER DRIVERS of the company be "labled" as "bad drivers"? Is it your desire to see the entire company itself be "labled" as a "bad company"? If so, then you are mis-directing your anger and you are incorrect. In fact, you might as well be angry at ALL DRIVERS of ALL COMPANIES because "accidents" (much like "doo-doo") happen every day in America. It sucks, but it is true.

And if you look at this forum and are honest in your search, you will see that "complaints" or "criticisms" of McElroy make up less than 1% of the "report a bad trucking company" posts in total.

No not saying that at all because my dad was a trucker fo 27 years for a huge company. I just looked at a lot of posts on here and seemed like McElroy wasn't too popular. Also have had personal contact with several people there. I was just here trying to get a little info on the company not smart remarks from people so I think I've seen all I need to and won't be back on here.

I'm not stupid so I do not need something repeated for me so that I don't misinterpret.

There's no need in arguing with a truck driver from somewhere far from where I live about this when like I said all I was doing is getting background info on the company so I won't be back on here.

A McElroy recruiter came to visit my CDL school this week(in PA), He said that if we came to work for McElroy that we would be on a dedicated run with Lowes. He said that we would primarily operate out of Hagerstown, MD; basically driving back and forth between Hagerstown terminal and different Lowes in the dedicated area. He said we'd be home every weekend because Lowes doesnt not accept deliveries on Sat/Sun. He also said that 95% of the loads would be pre-tarped and a person would just have to secure the load. He said that you know where you will be going a day in advance. He also said that the oldest truck in their 500+ fleet was a 2005 model. I read this entire thread have not seen anyone mention anything about this dedicated account, If anyone has any info on this run and what type of product is mostly hauled to Lowes it would be greatly appreciated. Also if you could comment on any of the above statement the recruiter made.

 

The recruiter is correct. McElroy has a number of dedicated guys that work out of the Lowe's Distribution in Hagerstown, MD. If you get on that account, the only difference between your truck and the rest of ours is that yours will have 1)Super Single tires and 2)only one operative fuel tank. This is to save on weight. Otherwise, you will drop and hook to pre-loaded trailers on the Lowe's lot. They are pre-tarped, but they are not strapped or secured with bungies (unless the load required belly straps), so you will have some work involved. Also, they are only tarped if Lowe's decides that where you are going it is going to rain (unlike the rest of us who have to tarp all the time).

The loads will be "everything but the kitchen sink" type loads - lumber of all shapes and sizes, ladders, planters, sheetrock, pipes, you name it. They are pretty crazy loads, but they have a scale on site and you have no fear of being over-weight. Depending on how busy they are, you may have to run two loads a day. One short haul to a nearby store, and one longer one to spend the night.

Lowe's stores are easy-cheesy runs. 99% of them have nice wide truck entrances and ample parking in the back. A very few are kinda rough, but nothing like some of the places we over the road McElroy drivers deal with. When it gets busy, they bring some of us longer haul guys in to help so I know first hand. Also, I deliver material to Hagerstown from the Shippers from time to time, so I've spoken with a few of the dedicated guys, and they seem to like it.

If I lived in Hagerstown I would do it for sure. About 4 months ago I lucked into getting to run dedicated out of the GP plant in Middleburg, NC and all I delivered to was Lowe's stores Ahhhhhh the good old days LOL!

 

As A person who is just starting out in the trucking business, no prior experience...everything I know sofar I've learned from the CDL class im currently taking....Is this the type of run that a brand new person in the industry could handle, while they're learning basically everything as they go? fnlou88, i noticed you seemed to be the only person saying positive or neutral things about McElroy, Are you a Recruiter. Guess thats a silly question as how would i know even if you said no. Im thinking(cautiously) about applying with McElroy because being home on weekends really appeals to me. I've worked all my life but somehow when I ask people about flatbed work they all give this silent sigh, the say its hard work! Like I said I've worked my whole life short as that may be..but I get this weird feeling I dont really comprehend the totality of there comment! If you know what I mean. Anyhow I ask again is the Lowes account a good gig for a brand new fresh out of school no prior experience driver. Please be honest you never know your opinion might actually mean something, not by itself but it might play a part....thanks for taking the time to help a fellow trucker out. I feel like this first company is such an important decision as to if ill stay in the business long-term.
