They do give you your choice of comfort zones, I have run in the western and south west zones. They have asked me a couple of times if I'd run a little out of my zones. (Once I ran to Walmart in Bentonville, Ar from L.A.) Rarely did I have to go more then 200 miles out of zone. I had a choice take the run or sit (lack of loads heading in zone) I pick running. Usually my next load got me back into my zone.

Does Swift force you to go to New York City?

Haven't tried with me yet, but they did try and get me to load up in Compton once, so I doubt NY would be off the table. Both of those'd be the line where I offer to clean out my truck wherever I'm at before I take the load, though. Fortunately they didn't make a fight out of it when I ignored the preplan.

hi all this is my first post other than the welcome wagon. im a recent class A grad from a school in ga. i paid in cash so i cant be held to a year. i plan on teaming with another student from my class after our orientation and mentor ship w/ swift. i have heard through some sources that swift treats the team drivers fairly well. i dont know that to be a fact though. i used to haul concrete for a living and we thought that we had it bad. even though we were home every night we never knew when we were getting off or when we would have to to go back in to work. if you had a saturday off they would beg you to work and if you refused the dispatcher would put you on his "A" list meaning the next 2 weeks you were going to get poop jobs and or shipped off to other plants to do their poop jobs.....some of the stuff ive read here about swift makes the concrete biz seem like a slumber party. i had origionally picked stevens transport due mainly to their equipment and miles that they promise and the long haul seems better to me than making a lot of stops for the same amount of miles. but alas my partner could not /would not go to stevens. so off we go to swift on the 21st of this month.

Well Good Luck to ya Duckman.

You know it has been my experience that when someone is happy about thier job they don't talk about it anywhere near as much as if they hated thier job. This seems to also apply here from what I have seen.
MY thought is you take what is "TYPED" here and keep in mind that there maybe posts from lets say 500 people who are angry with a company but when that company has 20000+ more happy people, it just seems to me that there are far more Happy or content at the very least with said Company.

It just seems to me that "per capata"(SP?), the complaints dont seem that out of whack.

Maybe im just an optimist or maybe I have just mellowed over the years and look to find the good and not dig up the Bad.

    Cheers

I had wonderful trainers; can't imagine a better experience w/ any other company!! Swift is actually a strict company; and have a great safety record in relation to how many trucks they have on the road!!!

My boyfriend was recently informed by his dm that swift has chaged it hometime policy. No more than 4 days home. My boyfriend was kept out for 1 and 1/2 months. and had at least 6 days saved up. When he arrived here they told him the new policy. Funny thing is, he'd been trying to get a load home for 3 or more weeks with no avail. good luck folks!

i would try roehl or schneider before i went with swift. just read the post on here. my former dm at roehl worked for swift for 6 years and ther treat their dm's just like they treat their drivers. so i hear. both companies a mention before have plenty of hometime options. stevens us to have a bad rep when i started driving in 99

Hey Duckman......be glad your partner wanted to stay with Swift. Think about it, who do you want to be with in todays economy......Swift is the biggest, has the most freight, the most trucks etc etc

The way the economy is now, if you have a job, bust your butt to keep it. Only the good drivers will survive at any company, it seems all OTR companies are "thinning the herd", I say, don't give them any reason to get rid of you. You'll enjoy swift, it is what you make of it. Have a positive attitude and make friends with your DM, he is the one responsible for the size of your paycheck. Swift is pretty strict on logs/safety, just keep your nose clean and run your miles.

As for the other poster who said his company wanted him to load in Compton, CA.....don't worry about it. I have loaded there a few times and it's not like you hear in the gangster rap crap music. The places you will load are not in the 'hood and they are all secured with guards and such. I've gotten loads out of Compton going to the east coast, you want to pass up those miles because you "heard" all about Compton??

Now NYC, thats different, never been there, never going to be there :biggrin_25516:
