I think you've been pretty discreet about where you live unless I missed it. And I'm not just talking about this thread. But I live in scottsville,ny. I think I know where you live but I won't say publicly. Anyhow to the point, I drive for Truckway Inc. We do wet and dry tanker and we also haul stone for the local quarry. You might not be able to get on the stone crew right away but we are home every weekend. The pay is decent and I can't complain about too much. If you're interested shoot me a pm and I'll give you my number and we can talk. Let me know
end of the road for me

Hopefully you'll get the $14 an hour job. You absolutely need to be home with the wife and kids. I'd keep the CDL though, you never know what the future holds. Best of luck and keep us posted. I hate to hear about people struggling financially. I am going through it myself and know well how frustrating it is.

apparently my trainer said i was making turns to square. i could have worked on improving, no chance was given. not even a simple you MUST do this or else we are going to let you go. as far as criminal record, absolutely NOT i have never even been arrested. i got rear ended at a red light once a could of years ago. someone hit the car behind me and pushed that car into my car. it wasnt my fault, there wasnt even any damage to my car NONE. i have a copy of the MVR and i told them about this when they hired me. i have the police report on a PDF but they never asked me for it. they never mentioned it when he told me i was done.
i worked for werner for 3 months and tested out. when i came home i decided to find a job that will get me home more often hence wadhams. if i had serous black and blue marks on my records, clearly werner would have let me go. werner kept me out for 8 weeks and i decided i had enough of that. -
OP, hang on to your CDL at least a few more years. You already paid some out of pocket to get it. If you let it go and find you need it, you'll probably have to pay a couple grand out of your own pocket.
You tried trucking and couldn't make it work for you. Sorry to hear that, but at least now you know. Good luck in your future, and your place is with your family now.
I gotta say it, though. I don't think you're giving us the whole story, which is totally your right and your decision. But let me tell you why I think that.
Wadhams Enterprises is the parent company of both RIST trucking, and ARG Trucking. Both companies have a rep for "taking anyone", and they're good for second chances.
In 2004 I spun out on black ice and wrecked the crap out of the tractor. I was driving for a small regional LTL and got fired on Tuesday after sweating out the weekend. The office lady where I worked and got fired from, knew the TM at ARG's terminal in the Capital District. I had driven gas before, so I applied and got the job within a week. They hired another guy, and gave us each a company car to drive to orientation separately. I got the small pickup with the standard shift because the other guy couldn't drive a stick.
I probably stayed at the same motel as you did, had orientation in the same classroom. ARG has some crappy policies, but they're totally up front about them. (One I remember is that if you get stuck for hours because of an accident ahead of you, you don't get hourly pay for that. First place I ever worked with that policy.)
I went back to my home terminal after I spent a week making deliveries with my trainer. They kept the other guy FOUR WEEKS, but finally had to let him go, because he couldn't learn how to drive a stick. I saw them work hard with other new hires from our terminal. They didn't pay great, but they paid okay, and as long as you did your job without whining, you were golden. They even kept guys who tore bumpers off trailers, knocked over gates at customers, etc. Point is, you had to do a lot of damage to be let go.
Is it at all possible, that just maybe, part of the problem is your expectations? -

damage NOPE i sure didnt do any damage. they weren't very clear with me besides what i already told you guys. i knew only one thing, i was DONE.
