Also straps staying on winches leaves the hook ends exposed to a lot more uv light and road crap right around the loop that's sewed thru the hook. Now, maybe that doesn't cause premature decomposition: but I've convinced myself it can't be better to leave them on than taking them off n storing them when not in use.

 

I always thought it was just the larger companies being too cheap to put a box on the trailer

The guy I'm leased to makes his company drivers keep them on the winches. He said the winches work their way to the tires and chew them up. I roll my straps up, store them in my rack and bungee the winches together in the center of the trailer.
