Thanks for the tip! You're right. I knocked over all the cones on the first try and had loads more room after that! Thanks! Instructor was a bit pissed, but when I explained to him what you said... he just smiled and shook his head.![]()

I'm curious about Maverick's flatbed training. The orientation is one week, but does it actually take one full week or ? They've told me the flatbed training does not always take a full week - it depends on how quick the driver learns.
I'm a Class A holder, but...
I've only got 7 months on it. I've had it since 2005.
I've been driving tour busses all over for 8 years, and straight trucks of various kinds all over as well.
I drove for Swift to move up from my class B to my class A. Then I got married, got a house, had a kid... and am struggling driving locally.
I'm interested in Maverick for the weekends home deal. They told me it's basically a 34 hour re-start at the house, but is it really every week or ?
I'm in upstate SC, at the 385/I-26 split just below gville/spartanburg area - and about an hour above I-20/Columbia, SC area.
I've never driven flatbed before. My father did in the 70's into the 80's for LJ Kennedy in the North East. He tells me it's rough, but can be good money. The rough part I'm not too worried about. Driving flatbed can't be any tougher than being a volunteer fire fighter, right?
I'm fairly confident I can handle it, I've driven in all 48, and Swift took me thru a winter in 37 of our 48- mostly above I-40 and extensively in the western and northwestern part of the US. Great experience in my eyes.
Does Maverick require you to log according to the QC or ?
How do you log tarping? and realistically how many loads require tarping/securement by the driver? Is that very time consuming or ? what are most of the loads? steel, lumber, or ? How strict are they on idling? How flexible are they on hometime issues, like family events - could I stay out a weekend to be home during the week for something? or ?
Thanks in advance.

As a driver you must know not everyone can get online every night/day. I'm sure someone will answer you. I might not go online several days at a time... sometimes, as a flatbedder, I'm just exhausted at the end of the day.
ParkRanger and Baack Thank this. -
Maverick flatbed training would normally be about a week, after a week for orientation. I'm at training now and going to glass training in Laurenburg, NC tomorrow. Logging is on paper, but it should match up to your QualComm. The rest I can't really answer as I am a new (student) driver, but they seem like good folks to me.
ScooterDawg Thanks this. -
Maverick runs Mid-Roof's I know, but I think they're XT's - which is good, and not regular mid-roofs. Also, if I was to run team, would I still get into a Mid-Roof XT or get put in an Eagle that they run or ?
Also, about the training, it's 500 a week, but is that net (take-home) or gross pay (before taxes)???
if it's gross pay then I'm subtracting about 30 percent from 500 to get a rough idea of what the actual training pay is. -
bigbusbob.... if i remember rite $500 was gross for orientation. they give you like $50 cash the first day which makes it $550. i dont think they run teams. they haul alot of steel, id say a majority of their freight is steel. most of it gets tarped. you will tarp and secure everything,, unless its glass,, but i dont know about that division. they always try to get you thru the house on the weekend, may not be alot of home time tho. even if your not in their home every weekend division (us) they may still try. i was (lng) long haul, out 2 weeks at a time, but was still home every wekend cause of where i lived. yes, you can stay out on the weekends, they will give you a minimum of miles whether you run them or not,, only if your left out over the weekend. idleing,,,, just try to be fuel consious. i think i answered some of your questions,, good luck =)

Hey there Park Ranger.....
Maverick is one of my two final choices, and I am VERY interested in their glass operation. Can you keep your posts up and let me (us) know more about your adventures? I am also interested about their operation / training in Laurenburg. As well as their Abilities Test / Physical Agility and so forth.
I'll be sitting here waiting.
Thanks!
Hey NoTarps, hadnt seen you in a while..... hope all is well.
