If anyone has any opinion on the best truck driving school in the country I would greatly appreciate their advice. Seriously looking into starting a new career for myself as a trucker, and I really want to make sure I get off to a solid start. Have had a great time going through these forums, I appreciate all that I have learned already. Thanks for everything.

In my opinon it is All State Career. I have a bachelors degree from an Ivy League school so when I was looking into trucking schools for my guy I wanted nothing but the best for him. All state career is the only one I found that gives you real college credits that you can transfer to another prog at a later time. My guy got lots of class time and practice time right out. He was hired on by the fist place he applied and past all their orientation testing. He also passed he CDL and endorsement tests on the first try. My point is that they really prepare you.

I would have to agree with Soon2be...not me! the other soon2be!!

I went to All State Career School in Philly, Pa. look at my post about that school..... i take everything i said about them
All State offers a 6 month program, i went every single day, never missed a day, and ran 20 mins late one day due to a snow storm.
every single day i said this sucks!! why did i sign up for 6 months!!! i could have went to one of the " 3 week cdl mills ", now 6 1/2 months later i have a new outlook on All State. I think All State should be the ones to set the industy standars..( school standards ).
when i started at my company i got hired on as an OTR driver, i did a 10 day training phase, along with a nother guy right outa one of the 3 day Mills.
my trainer was very impressed with my driving skills, the awareness/alertness, the i manuvered the truck, had us do a lot of backing up skills, and he was just down right impressed, and they offered me a short line job, running the NE. 6 1/2 months running upstate NY, starting my salary out way higher then 99.999% of new drivers out there, and making more then most vetren drivers, and im home EVERY weekend.
i went so far as write a letter to the home school for All State, telling what i thought of a 6 month program, how mad i was that i wasted 6 months of my life going to school 5 days a week for 5 hours a day. how long and drawn out the program was, and ways that they could shorten the program down, but now 6 1/2 months later, on one my many many many many weekends at home, i re-wrote a letter telling them how greatful i was to be able to spend 6 months at their school, and being able to learn everything i did, while allowing everything to sink in over the 6 mnts. and i told them to please disregarde my previous letter, and as a matter of fact, make copys of it and send to all of the All State Schools and show the students how lucky we really are.
...o btw, the other guy i was in training in could not back up 50 feet in a straight line, he always ended up doing circles every time he put the truck in reverse, he's an OTR driver, and belongs there.
so, alll in all i would find an All State School, and put in the 6 months, and see how lucky you end up in the end, youll do better then most 3 week students. -
Thanks so much soon2be...1&2. Just checked out the All State website and will give them a call tomorrow.
I have never heard that phrase "short line job". I am guessing it means routes with more frequent pick up and deliveries, requiring greater maneuvering skills? I would be really interested to know.
I have been thinking about trying to get into tankers. I have read that tankers are especially hard to get into as a beginner, but I like that idea that safety would be so far above everything else for both employee and employer. I really appreciate your posts. Thanks. -
Hey Cal, i see that your from Long Island, All State only has 3 campus's, 2 Pa, and one in Md. i could be wrong, they could have more that im unaware of,
" Short Line " = Should Haul? i run Upstate NY, i pretty much deliver to the same places every week, i guess you could almost call it a dedicated run. post what you decide, id like to no where you end up for school.
good luck.
