Every state has a disclaimer that you are responsible for any damages on the route. I think it's kinda crappy, but you accept that by signing the permit or running the load. You got lucky, the trooper didn't know that. Mi. Is horrid for over hieght loads. So much so I won't take one.

I would of messured the bridge. Even if you had to drop air to get under. Might of saved more hassles
I was told Monday some multi axle trk didn't read his In. Permit and was off rte on 465 in Indy. Hit the bridge. Then they had to back it up 3 miles to get him turned around. Hate see that fine and billLoudOne, snowman_w900, noluck and 3 others Thank this. -
A broker friend of mine keeps saying high pays the best. These are the reasons why! They do pay good, but man are they a brain drain trying to get em done.
Big_Red, snowman_w900 and johndeere4020 Thank this. -
My one and only height problem was versus a small girder bridge south of Mechanicsburg PA, a small two bit tinhorn village not far from Navy Depot. PennDOT had paved 6 inches under that thing with fresh blacktop. Making it 13.0 flat not 13.6.
I come steaming round and headed for it and got corraled by the local law. We stood arguing in the lot at the corner for two hours. Me: See that sign? 13.6 see my trailer 13.5 that means a good inch I can make it. Law: No sir. you wont.
Round and round until the pavement information was revealed. I think he saved my life that day.passingthru69 Thanks this. -
No Luck, Hate to tell you this, but your buddy lied.. I have seen tall lds. go for just about the same as regular lds.
HighCountry, Razororange, noluck and 2 others Thank this. -

Still call highway patrol? Or just hit the shoulder, 4 ways on and grab a height stick or a tape measure?
There aren't a lot of roads through Detroit I'd wanna be measuring a bridge, my back facing traffic and alone.MJ1657, 4mer trucker and Razororange Thank this. -
Well true on that DDlighttruck, not with out armed guards.
I have done the stop and measure deal before.. Not always easyMJ1657, johndeere4020, DDlighttruck and 2 others Thank this. -
Well they do pay better, to him. Now if someone is stupid enough not to get more for doing it. That's kinda on them. At least imho. Of course my guy would never load one on a low baller. He's learned that lesson the hard way. If they don't know what it's worth, they probably don't know how to do it.cke, LoudOne, johndeere4020 and 2 others Thank this.
