So couple of things here, I've got an old external speaker I've been using that has talk back. I hear a "white " noise or static I guess when the truck is shut off even with talk back shut off on the speaker. So I thought I'd get another speaker but my question is do I need one with talk back or can I just get a speaker as this radidio already has the talk back feature, and what's a half decent speaker? It'll be hooked to a General Lee
External Speaker

Just get a speaker without talk back. It is not necessary since the General Lee already has talk back. While an external speaker with its own talkback will work, its volume controls will not work and it will yield to the radio's toggle switch setting for TB.

I learned something. I never knew there were speakers with talkback. My Stryker 447HPC2 has it, but I keep it turned clear down. After several years in broadcasting, I know what I sound like and don't need to risk the feedback.

The Cobra HG S500 is a model with variable talk back. It has two cables that plug into the radio: one that goes into the external speaker jack, and the other that goes into the PA jack. It essentially does the resister mod. It can be turned off.

I should add that when I use that Cobra HG S500 speaker with my General Lee, its talkback features do not work. No matter how I connect it to the General Lee-- with one or both cables-- talkback is on or off depending on the radio setting alone. Unfortunately, I lose the ability to control the volume with the variable knob on the speaker. If your radio has variable talk back, I imagine that would control it for you. The General Lee, of course, does not have variable talk back. With my noise canceling microphones, I never have feedback problems.

MLS-100 is probably by far the best speaker money can buy.

A hint......Match the ohm output of the radio with what a speaker needs..

Aren't all radio audio outputs as well as all CB external speakers rated at 8 ohms?

Nope..
