How exactly are you gonna throw on chains, if you cant even shift a simple 10 speed tranny?

First let's distinguish between REAL automatics and automated.

A real automatic has a torque converter. Automated transmission, on the other hand, is still a manual transmission that is merely being shifted by the computer. The clutch operation, in most cases, is also being handled by the computer. A contraption, junk. Although they are getting better.

Since you're in Philly, you may want to check out UPS freight in bensalem. i can't speak directly about that terminal, but we, in general are basically getting both automatics and automated transmission in all new trucks.

The most recent trucks i've driven with the automated, 'I-drive" systems have improved over the OTR truck i drove which i think was an Eaton which sucked and burned the clutch many times as i was trying to back.

However, i still don't think the I-drive is the way to go. The Allisons with torque converter are just great.

I guess I don't understand what one has to do with the other. I can drive a 10 speed manual, 13 speed manual or a 12 speed automatic. I can also throw tire chains if I want. I don't see the connection. Shifting does not make you a better driver. Driving safely in whatever truck you are driving makes you a better driver.

A standard is a three on the column.

All trucks are going to automatic. For the simple reason it is easier to pee into a bottle while you are driving if you have a free hand.
