Yeah, it seems lately I have been getting quite a few of these loads. When an oil rig orders certain specs on their tools and gotta have it yesterday, the suppliers have to scramble to see where in their system they can pull it all together. This means lots of expedited shuttle loads, and many tools require air ride so the hot shots can't take them. I'm not complaining.

@Lepton1
Lepton your load of drill pipe reminded me of my time hauling this pipe in the late 70s & early 80s. I'll try to explain how we did it back then. We used 35' flats and would lay 3 pair of 20' 5/16 chain across the deck, front, middle & back near the 3 4x4s, then lay down 23 jts of 3 1/2" pipe if I remember right. Our trailers had multiple 2" pipe stakes. Chock the pipe away from the stakes then "lay in" 22 jts. Then lay down 3 more 4x4s and 22 jts with 21 layed in on top of that. Then 3 more 4x4s and 21down and 20 layed in. Done. While all the pipe was being rolled on, me and the other driver, each with a 4' bar on each end sliding each pipe, would "collar" every joint so none of the collars or pins were touching another . This kept the width consistent and tight. Then 3 chains went from an anchor point, under the pipe and back over the top to the same anchor or close to it. Same 3 from the other side the same way. 3 chains pulling the load to the left & 3 pulling to the right. Each acted as a belly chain & also kept the load as tight as could be. Then we would re-chock it all using small pieces of V belt from pumping units. Many loads from Ca central coast to Bakersfield & back. Hope this made sense.DDlighttruck, Lepton1 and x1Heavy Thank this. -
Perfect sense. Pyramid each layer for smaller pipe. I had a similar load last year.DDlighttruck, MJ1657, x1Heavy and 1 other person Thank this.

Joints. As in joints of pipe. Sir.

When I entered Wyoming to deliver to an oil rig near Cheyenne I picked into the weigh station so they could review my paperwork. As the guy was entering my vehicle registration into the computer he asked, "What are you carrying?"
"Twenty three tons of joints".
All the the folks behind the counter looked up with concern and/or shock on their faces.
"Drill pipe for that rig you can see out your window".
They started laughing. "Gee, I thought you were coming from Colorado".1951 ford, Big Don, 4mer trucker and 4 others Thank this. -
I was coming out of Canada one time with roofing shingle material in super sacks. The US customs man asked me what I had. I said with concern ,,,,,,the BOL states it's 43,000 pounds of " black blast powder" going to a shingle plant. Off to exray I go. But I did get out of there with out any issues.
