Guys I got a quick question here. Lately I have been doing work for a client that pays me in Comchek it's nice because unlike other ones these are a no fee payment. Somehow I guess because I bought a bunch of checks from Comdata they reached out to me and asked if I wanted to apply for a card to put payments on and to use for fuel or whatever. But there is a fee with that card I believe he said it was monthly.
I think it's probably not beneficial to me to apply for a card even though I am getting paid more with Comchek's and my bank doesn't charge me to deposit them unlike truck stops.

Question is do any of you guys use ComData cards to accept payment and purchase fuel, are there any other benefits that outweigh the paper check? Met a driver at a hotel last week said he gets hotel discounts through ComData but so do I through either rewards or OOIDA? So whats the benefit or is there just not enough to bother with it.

Thanks Guys Have a good night stay safe

ComData works well if you are leased to a carrier, have several drivers working for you, or need a fuel card. I never had ComData with my trucks, used Voyager for fuel and issued a Visa Debit card tied to a bank account to my drivers for on the road purchases and emergencies. Personally, with my regular accounts I set them up to pay me via ACH credit, instant availability and really simple. Only caution with ACH, if they deposit into your account they can also reverse the transaction and withdraw up to the same amount, so I had a separate receiving account that I moved the money out of daily, just in case.

Unless you need the cash flow advantage of immediate access to the payments you are currently receiving via ComChek it is not worth the monthly and per transaction fees they will charge for using the card. Now, if you do need the expedited availability of funds then it may be worth it, however I strongly caution against getting into the habit of expedited funding, it gets expensive to give up a portion of your revenue just to manage cash flow.

If your bank allows you to deposit ComChecks thru a mobile banking app on your phone then you usually can have next day access to the funds anyway, at least that is how my bank, PNC, handles my business deposits. A word of caution, if the deposit is returned they will deduct the funds, so it is not a good idea to count on these mobile deposits until the draft has actually cleared the bank, otherwise you may find yourself overdrawn with no funds available for fuel or food.

Hey Brian thanks for replying, yeah I only asked about these cards because the sales rep has called me 4 times this week trying to sway me into the advantages of the card. The bulk of my work is ACH two day deposits only a few clients pay comchek and only one doesnt charge a fee to issue it.
My bank TD lets me deposit the check they call and get the AUTH # and usually the next day the funds are available, but they will release up to $100 of it immediately until the rest clears. I have a fuel card from RTS for Pilot and Flying J and it works great. They take the amount out every Friday through auto pay so I never have to worry about forgetting to pay, and all other expenses go on my biz debit or one of my personal credit cards.

I use my t-chek/comdata card often. For fuel purchases, there is no fee. There is no fee if you link a checking account to the card to transfer money too. There is a fee for taking cash out. When I need to take cash out I find a no fee ATM this way I am not getting hit with fees on both ends. The fees are tax deductible
