I started CDL school last week. Its a 10 week course and all going well I will finish early in June. I do have my permit, tanker, doubles n triples and air brake endorsements. The next one for me is hazmat.

Hopefully I will get a local job as soon as I finish school. Any hints as to how to find something?

    Thanks

Good luck with your new journey, trucking has its rewards and pitfalls much like anything else these day. Im sure once your location is known, you could further enlighten others such as @Chinatown what may be available to you in your area. Best wishes on your new endeavor

I'd try the search bar at the top of the page/ Good trucking companies as well

Old Dominion hires new grads for local work. They have P&D (pickup & delivery) for local work and linehaul (terminal to terminal drop & hook) for longer runs. Even linehaul has home most days, but some may be gone longer if you run teams or depending on the terminal.
Old Dominion has been sending recruiters to cdl schools in PA because evidently PA is really growing in customer base for the company.
Some husband/wife teams can make $225K per year at Old Dominion.

We need more details; you said "we" are in Pittsburg. Any other type driving job you might be interested in other than local? Are you looking for team operation?

You will never stop learning, thus never finish. School is a taste of what is to come.

Open your telephone book for local Start with ready mix and work your way into gases, chemicals etc.

as @x1Heavy stated start with ready mix and work you way up, If I may say my unwanted two cents get some experience, as you might know in the LTL world and tankers theres money to be made, but is a hustle and you gotta get to tight spots and meet the deadline's along with four wheelers. There's a reason companies want experience again the whole game of trucking is be safe and go home the same way you came in to work. Good luck on your journey god bless ya.

Long story ; I live in pittsburgh with our two boys, my hubby who drives trucks for the past two years lives in a different part of the state as that is where his job is. Our intention is in summer 2018 to do team driving as our kids will be in college by then. I would like a local job for the year while our youngest finishes high school. So I was thinking Schneider and Old Dominion would be a good place to start as a local job and then move into team driving next year. Maybe I could work the overnight shift but be home every day for now.
Thanks for all the opinions. They are appreciated.

In 2018 look at Calex Logistics and Old Dominion.
Calex Logistics runs teams to California and back. A few Old Dominion teams run California and back.
