Hi, I was wondering if anyone can tell me about cpap breathing machines in the trucks. I've had sleep apnea for 7 years and this machine has made all the difference to me. I've seen an article about trucking companies encouraging truckers to be tested and to use one if needed. Some companies even helped supply them to drivers.
Do you think a trainer would care if I brought mine or should I wait till I have my own truck? They are very quiet now but would require an outlet to plug into.

I say take it! What's your quality of sleep if you don't take it? Depending on the degree of your sleep apnea, if you don't sleep with your machine you'll be dosing when you should be driving. Not a good combination. Take it!

You NEED to take your CPAP with you. It aids in your ability
to get the proper rest to be a fully alert and safe driver.
I have mine with me all the time..mine does not need an inverter to work-plugs in to 12 volt socket.... -
I too use a CPAP machine. It's my understanding that if you are diagnosed with sleep apnea, and had a CPAP machine perscribed for your use, you are required by DOT regulations to use it. Not only use it, but the chip in it that records it's usage has to be routinely read and reported to DOT to prove that you are in fact using it every sleep period.
The company I work for lets me know every couple of months that it's time to have the chip read and the results faxed to them so they can report it to the DOT.
Mind you, I can't say that that's all really the law, or just my company covering itself, but were I you, I'd make sure. -
I have one also. I cannot handle the mask! Can't sleep well with it! Plus the rubber seal deteriates & the whole mask must be replaced. Expensive & uncomfortable. I am going to make a suggestion. There is a device called no mask, You have 2 nostril hoses & a mouth piece like used in sports. They are attached to it. I made some changes to it. Now the hoses go directly inside my nostrils. I also use a shoestring to secure it to my head. I can open my mouth & not lose it dueing sleep. Much better!
If I remember correctly you can find it at www.nomask.com Check it out. -
I always thought that you couldn't get a medical card if you had sleep apnea, but if you are diagnosed with it after you've already had your CDL then you are grand fathered in did I hear wrong???
Completely off topic, but Thumbrunner my girlfriend is from Lapeer and we are thinking of building a house a few miles north on 24 in mayville when we get married(gasp)...
Do you have any Knowledge of Mayville??? -
Chips on a CPAP are a joke . You can have it running without wearing it . -
Hey wahwah, one of the guys at the plant lived there. Nice area mostly farms and a nice "downtown" .If you like the country life you should be okay. Land is cheap right now! Good luck
wahwah70 Thanks this. -
We have looked at land in Lake Orion, and oxford...Not only is the land extremely over priced they to are both heavily congested area's...
We looked at a 70 Acre lot in Mayville that had everything needed for a new construction and they were asking $90,000, I am sure you know how much cheaper that is then Orion and oxford(if you can even find that much land)...
Thanks... -
Yeah wahwah I too grew up in the metro area. East side G.P. I can't hardly stand even driving down there anymore. I've been living out here about 10 years now while working in Hamtramk everyday at an axle plant. (that jobs a gonner) My 10 acres seemed huge at first and we started raising beef cattle and a couple hogs a year. 70 acres would be awesome!
wahwah70 Thanks this.
