He got lucky and you got otr. Otr irregular route big uglies is the bottom of the trucking barrel. I doubt it gets much worse then that. I drove swift several times in my many years of trucking. I made that same exact money when I pulled dedicated swift , it's the best swift has in my opinion. Best money and best work HOWEVER I still tried to keep my otr truck and work that account. I sleep better in a truck than I do anywhere else. It is common that those dedicated accounts will "borrow" from otr and then send them back to otr when they can find cheaper local drivers. You still have long work days so if your thinking about home every night it isn't that good of a deal. Plus home every night guys don't make as much money as otr guys that work those accounts. To get on that account can be simple. Get the phone number of the office for that account and call them up and ask them if they need any help. Ask your friend for the number or just call any swift terminal and ask around for the phone number , someone will have it. I would not ask your DM for it , they are worthless.

If your DM thinks you are worth keeping he/she may lie to you and tell you there aren't any openings. The Walmart dispatchers have the authority to switch you onto their crew whether your DM likes it or not. Call them directly.

I know I couldn't work for swift on a Walmart account knowing that I could go work for Walmart directly and get paid more. But as a newbie it's a good gig

Ask your dispatcher how to get on a dedicated account.Of course you would have a different dispatcher but your checks will be consistant.I would say out of all divisions OTR is the worst.

Send a Directed Message to "meekb" and ask how to get on Miller Coors Dedicated out of Colorado. It's still technically OTR, but you see a lot of the same locations. Average loads are 800+ and you never sit. You either get a beer load, a dunnage load, or a load of empty cans/kegs. Average over 3000 miles a week easily. Even if they don't have a load on that account, you get priority on a load that gets you into the area of a beer related load. So it may be a 1400 mile load of toilet paper, going from Colorado to Elkton, Virginia... there you will get a beer load.

As for your friend, he gets mileage pay for the local loads, which pay handsomely. I've received .80cpm before for a short hop to help a planner and that was like 300 miles, followed by back to back to back 20 mile drop and hooks, paying a buck a mile.

Your friend also gets multiple stop pay, loaded miles and paid deadhead back to the terminal.

.41 is what Walmart dedicated is paying last I checked. .41 * 400. Every stop but the first and final are paid at 15 dollars per. So you're looking at another 45-60 dollars.

Over 200 dollars a day. Pretty easy to make 1000 if you run hard. I only make checks that small if I take like 4 days off or something.

Lastly, they always have a load. Spam macro 30 until you get a load or they tell you to stop. Message planners. Early and often. Try to always be empty on Thursday night/Friday morning and always approve your logs immediately before sending your empty call, and immediately whenever you wake up. They can't plan you if they don't know your hours.

I've tried calling the swift/walmart terminal multiple times already and got nowhere. Every time I call the person in charge, they say they are always full. My friend said they increased their pay rate a week ago, so I'm sure it's even harder to get on the account now. I don't understand it. How in the hell did he get on that account immediately after going solo? I asked him and he said he has no idea, he was just offered to be on the account. I thought you needed experience before getting a gig like that.

Meanwhile, my pay checks have been very inconsistent. One week I'm making $600, then the next two weeks, I'm making $250-$300.

    This sucks.

Excuse me? I like driving otr. I just don't like the inconsistency of the pay. a steep decline in my paycheck the very next week is ridiculous. I don't want to be out there risking my ### driving in snow and bad weather in the middle of nowhere for a lousy $250 check.

If the pay was consistent, I'd have no problem. However when I am continuously getting $250 checks week after week because there is nothing available, I want out of otr.

Surely you can understand my frustration.
