Question about the orientation booklet

    Hi all, I went through Stevens' orientation before deciding to leave and go with Prime instead (for personal reasons; one of Prime's terminals is in my hometown, whereas I know no one in Texas -- I have nothing but respect for Stevens, they struck me as a great company, just not the right fit for me). After I left Stevens, I threw away everything they gave me there, but I have a question about something in their orientation booklet...

    I recall there was a list in the book of highways that Stevens NEVER wanted their drivers to be on. Can anyone share that list, please?

    I really would like to know...now that I've been all over the country in a truck myself, I've probably been on one or many of those roads, and would like to know what Stevens' rationale was telling their drivers to stay off of those particular roads.

    Most are poor quality roads, low bridges or restricted in winter months. There are some with too many distractions which have caused a higher rate of accidents. restricted1.jpg

    Thank you for posting that, drake3d! Some of them strike me as a bit odd...US 84 in Mississippi I haven't been on (aside from near Brookhaven); is it that bad of a route? KS 99 is another odd one (to me). I get I-70 in Colorado, but that really isn't a problem at all during the summer months.

    70 Between Grand Junction and Denver is a Classic Example of a formal Restriction against newbie truckers. You don't send babies to field and track in middle school do you? Wait until they get seasoned a little bit, maybe even tenderized through some beatings first.

    Donner and Storm King (80 and 70 respectively) do not get handed to newbies. They need to run around and get dirty in the big boy pants a while first.

    It was common for decades to hear of a rule like that in any given company, you would ask the drivers to see the routing book at the truckstop and see if that company did indeed allow people to run that 70 24/7/365 with or without chains. (With strongly recommended, 5 sets plus 2 spares and two outriggers)

    I recognize 55 and US 84 at a place called Brookhaven, Met a gal there who wanted to have us evaluate one another prior to marriage over a courting time of months. I never did get to be sent back there, thank fully.

    US 97 is a road to be reckoned with in good weather out NW from near Yakima OR to Jct... I84 Dalles, Biggs Jct Dam? ANyhow it eventually works it way into Califormia. Ive got a thread where we had a driver come down that highway in between winter stoms that week. I consider that one a very high level of possibbiliities offered by the net in near real time.

    ks-99 has been redone, it had a lot of rolling hills before being smoothed out some. so between all the rollings hills and wind i am sure we had roll overs and run offs so Stevens said no go. most of the restrictions are old and probably should be redone.

    K99 from Howard to emporia still has stretches with no shoulders , drop offs and it's loaded with deer .

    drake3d, could you (or anyone else) please post the list of restricted truck stops right below the route list? You can see the top of it in the posted image, but not the rest. Thanks in advance!

    the I-70 in Colorado is Vail Pass. K-99 nothing wrong with that road other then its a tight road. if i can drive a school bus down that road and a oil rig can go down that road then it can be done.

    There is nothing wrong with K-99 other then it is a 2 lane highway between US-24 and I-70. trust me on this i drove it everyday for a year as a school bus driver.
