I hope you are not trying to drive a truck with google maps. Anyway, just drive I 10 for a few and it will recalculate via I10 and I20.

    Tishtish Thanks this.

    Lower Alabama or Louisiana?

If you're talking about from Communist State of Kalifornia, it's only 40 miles difference (further on 10/20). Where do you like to stop/eat or enjoy the scenery? In a rush, have an oversize want to avoid some place enroute, have the time to "trash around", etc...? Like the bar tenders used to ask "what's your poison?"

In your phone, just input Pecos, TX as a via point if that's the way you insist on going. Otherwise on a computer browsers based Google Maps, just drag the highlighted route line to the route you want

Forget 10 or 20 until at least Memphis, US 79 via I-55 river crossing takes you into Atlanta in about 12 hours right off 40. via I-20 final.

Never mind the idiot GPS Google earth. Your mind is the final decider for which route to take. I still say 40.

In all my years driving I don't ever remember a LA to Atlanta trip. I do remember a ton of LA to the NE area trips though. Its been a bit over 4 years since I have been out there burning diesel. If however I was in LA headed to Atlanta my decision on route would be based on my weight and the conditions of the roads and where my company has planned my fuel stops. There is no right answer to this question because conditions change all the time.

I try and avoid El Paso and Phoenix if any way possible. 40 is an easy drive this time of year.

You can easily completely bypass Phoenix and most of the time if you plan it right you can get through El Paso either early morning or late night. The biggest problem with the I 10/I 20 route is the DFW area. However don't let Oklahoma City, Little Rock and Memphis put you to sleep. I know more then one driver that has had MAJOR issues getting from I 40 to US 78 those turns going both ways coming from the bridge on I 55 are tough and unforgiving. During my driving career it seemed I spent a lot of time headed toward Reno and I 80 then most any other route. I never really understood it but it seems that I 80 was more in our traffic lanes.

When you are at the "start point to destination" screen, touch the menu (3 stacked boxes) and choose "Add Stop". You can drag the "stop" boxes to any order.
