I was terminated about 2 months ago because I used up my allotment for preventable accidents. None of them occurred on the road. And one of them actually incurred no damage to the parked vehicle I hit. The most damage done in one was $3000 to a 4-wheeler's parked car. Two of the accidents involved backing my 53 ft trailer.

I was not charged or issued any type of citation in any of them. I was only driving for 3 months (yep, a rookie).

I agree that all were preventable and I learned a lesson the hard way each time.

I had accumulated 17K miles and had even much tighter situations than either of the three preventables involved whereby I got the job done safely. Is there any hope of getting another driving job?

Well bjay, there is hope of u getting another job,but u may have to end up w/ additional training to correct ur small problems.whether backing,or otherwise. UR DRIVING record will be scrutinised and believe me if they really want u,they'll keep an eye on ur safety record and ask shipper and receivers how u were at backing into and leaving their docks. But dont give up hope, keep a positive attitude and if u want to drive,u'll find a way to do it.What u need the most is more driving experience. Good luck and be careful. CYA AT ALL COST!

Just curious...who did you work for? Three preventables in three months, thats gonna be a tough one. I would try some local companies. I hope it works out for you.

I think he has cooked his goose for a while if not forever in the trucking industry.

I could understand maybey one backing accident but to have three accidents in such a short time means that you never learned from the first one.

After the first one you should of learned if in question G.O.A.L.

    Get
    Out
    And
    Look

I am not trying to be a smart ##* or trying to cause trouble but it needs to be said.

I was out on the road for longer than you when I quit.

I learned that I have to G.O.A.L. I have never had a backing accident in a semi.

How did you hit a parked car?

I wouldn't say he's done, maybe Schneider's or another large fleet. But re-training would almost be certain.

Now I've seen sugar coating before...but these guys have taken it to a new level. 3 accidents in 17K miles translates into 18 accidents a year for the average driver...based on your accident ratio.

First off....you don't have an "allotment" of accidents. It's always ZERO.

Second, you had 3 accidents and only 17K miles experience....No you don't have ANY experience. You didn't learn #### from the first accident...or the second accident. So you're effectively a steering wheel holder. You sure wasn't in control of the truck, nor were you collecting experience. Experience means you learned "something"

Third..You might find a complete idiot that will give you a job. Hopefully, you will never deliver anywhere within 100 miles of any of my family members.

I'm a firm believer in providing encouragement, and support where/when needed. But this is over the top IMHO.

Tell you what Mr. danc4u. Your "signature" says it all as far as how much your opinion means to me. And don't bother replying to this because I will not honor your reply with a running diatrabe.

Thanks to everyone else for your honest and helpful feedback.

Man dude im a newbie only been solo for a month, but my record is clean. The only thing i know is i was told to keep it that way or i was done in this type of work, thus far i have done so even in some crazy back ups an crazy 4 wheelers. But i would agree with the people telling u re training is the first step, maybe a big fleet would take u under there belt not to sure on a small family owned company. Just going to have to hustle and explain what went wrong to them. But good look hope you learned for next time you get to trucking

Y'know - I've only got 4 months behind the wheel, and I agree with Danc694U. AND I have 2 preventables - one, I was backing into a tight tight dock at night, and clipped a bit of rusted angle iron that broke the top trailer door hinge. Yeah, I did the GOAL bit (a number of times) and used my mirrors. Sometimes the dog bites you

Nr two I was pulling onto the shoulder when it collapsed, sending me and rig into a very very waterlogged ditch. I kept it upright, and I was pulled out with no damage to truck or load.

In the space of 10 days, at that.

So, now I'm looking for another job. I most certainly don't expect it to be easy, and I may end up with <shudder> Werner, JB Hunt, or CR England.. but if I can keep my nose clean for a year, I can move on to companies I'd like better. Say, the company Danc694u drives for.

As for his signature - a man's politics has precisely Jack to do with his skillset. It's a wise man who listens to somebody with experience - even if he paints his face blue and recites Shakespeare from the rooftops.

And I further agree with him that you did NOT learn from any of your accidents - if you had, you'd not have hit two parked cars. It's clear from your original statement that you got sloppy in each case, and never learned to make sure of your surroundings.

Yeah, you can probably get a job still, but *I* wouldn't hire you. I'm not sure I'd hire me.

To put it in plane english, it appears that driving a rig is not what you should be doing. You'd be better off in another job.

Then I'll reply, since you've forbidden danc to. You obviously have a problem with the safe operation of a Class 8 vehicle. Danc told you so and you got huffy. Now, maybe he wasn't exactly soft-spoken about it, but he makes a valid point. Want to be angry with someone? Be angry with the instructor/trainer that turned you loose before you were ready. Everybody has incidents, but three preventables in 17,000 miles is indicative of a serious problem. If would not hire you at this point.

Oh, and as far as danc's sig line is concerned; if you are reading into it that he's racist, you have a problem with paying attention to what you read as well as what you drive.
If you are slamming him because of his politics, well...

Either way, his sig line has no bearing on his experience behind the wheel. Doesn't matter the politics, you would do well to maybe pay attention to anyone that has experience keeping their tandems off other peoples' hoods.
