Ok, I've had some bad run ins so far with Star out of Morton Il. I'm asking, anyone that knows anything about this.
is Star worth staying on for, US Express offered for me to start orientation with them, and so did Werner and Swift........... Please someone, tell me, is Staying with star WORTH it, or try one of these other places.......
I heard Star just did some layoffs and is having trouble putting people in trucks. I'm just worried because they mainly only haul for two companies (georgia pacific and cat) please someone help me out...........
I need to make a decision EXTREMELY SOON!
Guys. Everyone, please help me

Only you can answer your own question. First, write everything down on paper - the good, the bad, and the ugly. After everything is written down, read it. Put it aside for 24 hours and then read it again. Then you will know what to do. Works everytime for me!

well i'm just trying to get some opinions, about Star and then US EXpress........ which one would be better to work for?
-
try the other star, out of tn. home every weekend, good equipment and they dont really jack you around.
-
I'd say USXpress. I don't work for them, but I've been pissed off by more star drivers over the years then USXpress drivers. Not knocking Star, but USXp is a much bigger company, and the opportunities(regional, local) are a safer bet I'd wager. Plus you get an automatic, that's gotta be worth sumthin'

I've only had one encounter with a Star (Morton, IL) driver. I was put OOS at the NB Marion, IL scale & was standing inside when he came in after being sent around back for being over weight on the drives. He didn't have a clue as to what to do to about it or how to slide the tandems after he was told that's what it'd take for him to get past. I went out back & explained to him how to do it & helped him get it right. The equipment (Peterbilt) looked good & was clean inside & out.
Here's a small thread on them, take it for what it's worth. Don't ever base your judgement solely on what you've read, who knows what the demeanor was of the poster when they posted it.

Oh yeah, as for my OOS. It took two inspectors to twist my steering shaft back & forth just enough to get what they called... a bad steering linkage. Lucky for me, the officer just happened to know a great mechanic.Last edited by a moderator: Oct 20, 2008

Hey driver,
Take your time deciding and do your research. There are a lot of good companies to work for out of the Georgia, Tennessee area. Go to one of the truck driver employment websites and type in these states. You should have no problem finding a good company to work for. -
You need to make that decision on your own. And you do that by gatering all the information you can. You have one driver here that drove for them and his response explains why Star has dropped 28 power units and 107 drivers. I took that info from Safe Stat and that report tells me they are not the safest company around. Far from it. U.S. Xpress has alot more drivers and trucks and their driver and vehicle safety evaluation numbers are much better. But you need to look at all the aspects of both companies before you choose. You'll need to look at pay and benefits along with all the other new driver situations. Coming here was a smart choice and whatever you do don't put all your cookies into the hands of a recruiter. Good luck and be sure you make a good sound decision.
