This technology will take a while to be perfected and adopted. The initial unit cost will be high and that will slow the adoption of the technology. Safety will be paramount. There will still need to be an operator on board.
I would not worry about jobs being lost to a computer driver....it could be 10 years before you see any significant adoption of computer truck drivers. Look fo cars to be computer driven before trucks. There are experimental cars out there now being driven by a computer, but there is still an operator on board.
Once you see a computer driven car for sale to the public, and you see them getting 10% of the market share, you may then see computer driven trucks for sale, but it will be a limited market due to the higher cost to purchase, for the software and hardware. And we don't know how the insurance companies will charge for a computer driven truck......more due to liability, or less due to a safer truck.
I would not worry about computer driven trucks reducing the demand for drivers.

Quakertown? I'm right down the road from you in the Souderton area. I'm just starting soon in this myself. I wouldn't worry it's not gonna happen anytime soon with autonomous trucks.Randy0980 Thanks this.

Unless you team up, I highly doubt it. best exchange phone numbers and your social media activity on line. I rarely see same person twice a year where im at.. we all have our own worlds.

I can't imagine the amount of regulation will be involved in the "Self-driving" field.
Lanes will have to be painted perfectly, road conditions favorable, equipment flawless, hacker proof and no software glitches.
Any mistake? Nasty lawsuit and heavy fines from the feds.
Reality? THERE WILL ALWAYS NEED TO BE SOMEONE IN THE TRUCK. Anything going wrong could result in death, injuries, lawsuits, tarnished company reputation and loss of business.
