Besides the truck looking like it had been in a blood bath, what kind of damage?

even if you change lanes they will still take two more steps just to be in front of you

get some of those deer whistlers, i have seen them make a deer stop and back out of the road. i saw a crotch rocket that hit one right north of cinncy probably still in the city limits, i think he was flying because the bike skidded a long way past the point of impact and came to rest against a guardrail.

My dad's been a truck driver for about 12 yrs and has never hit an animal. He doesn't drive with his brights at night. He thinks and I think he's right, that if you're driving with your brights on that you blind them and they don't know what to do.

Brights or not, they tend to freeze. Or, just when you think they've passed in front of you, they'll change direction and cross your path again. Best you can do is slow down as much as you can before impact. Not to try to save the animal, but to minimize the damage to the equipment. Never swerve, you risk laying the truck over, or worse.

I hit a deer on NB I15 in MT one night, several years ago. I was empty and headed home and got 'er slowed down to about 75 before impact. She went under every tire on the right side of the truck. I was empty at the time, but since a car-hauler has a scant few inches of clearance, there was a huge mess. Hamburger. I was picking pieces out for weeks afterward. Nosed up to a guard rail, hooked a chain to the front bumper and backed up to get the bumper back out where it belonged, then headed on home.

First deer I ever hit was in broad daylight in PA back in '90, I think.

To be honest, I really don't know. All I remember him saying is that it wasn't too bad -- that they had to straighten the hood and replace a few parts. :biggrin_25519:

    Might be a company policy.

If no damage to the truck then just keep on rolling and dont report it.
