I don't get this biz sometimes. One week it's Werner is the worst. Next week Schneider. Next week Western Express. No wonder so many rookies are confused. No way would I take any of those dollar accounts.
Don't the Schneider trucks idle too?

You'll have to unload at each DG store.I can't remember what the pay is but I do know its low.Make sure you do a lot of backing while in training.

Nowhere is gonna be perfect, that's in any type of work you do. Just find one that will get you home like u want and pays the bills. I was scared to death of my company because I read stuff where people talked bad about it and come to find out I actually like it here. As far as the idle thing I was told that the Sni van trucks didn't idle, they would turn off after a couple minutes. My bulk tractor will idle, this option they have to give us because we run Heat in transit to the tanker to keep loads hot nd must sometimes run the truck 24/7..

I have had the pleasure of evaluating the poor sob who has to back across a live divided highway aiming his trailer against the flow of traffic who are all too eagar to have him hit them as they force themselves around him while leaving said store property.
When that truck does finally back in and set the brakes, the threat level increases as the thugs come out to see what can be robbed today. They will ignore the walmart down the road rocking half a mil in cash upstairs and a routine armored gaurd delivery every tues at 10 am without fail. They need to change that routine before someone does knock em off.
These stores in my area are not too bad, but morale is generally low and stress high. It's not worth the risk of property damage or accident to incur among a people who do not have enough to buy liability insurance in the first degree but will hand over 10 dollars on sight for a beanie baby on sale for 2 years in the far corner that has never been swept or dusted by any actual store staffer since grand opening. They have temps on order for that.New2Trucking2017 and 19d Thank this. -
I could be wrong and got bad or old info from a van driver about idle.. so don't hold me to it.. but if it wouldn't stay running on it's on that would get old quick on a super hot Georgia evening

Basically like the boys said, you will be unloading more than driving. You can make decent money, at least with my company. They do DG but if you're new and don't know about how much they pay it can be confusing.
They want to pay you a certain amount, say 90 bucks a trailer but when you talk to others on the account they are getting 250 a trailer. Demand more pay per trailer starting out. I would only recommend it to those that enjoy the work. You can make 1500 a week but the manual workload is discouraging.
Don't let them pay you what they want to pay you or you won't last. Most the guys average a trailer every 2 days, but with a company like Werner good luck unloading when you are logged off as off duty. That's the only way it's worth it, or if you are overweight and just need to powerhouse on losing some lbs. Good luck man.
Also remember that these are dedicated accounts usually so if you aren't as busy as you want to be the first month you can garuntee it won't changeNew2Trucking2017 Thanks this. -

Since you're in Raleigh try Abilene Motor Express. Don't know if they have dedicated though.
