For 45k -- theres a lot of trucksyou can look for. Don't settle for this one.. I would say theres lot better options out there. Honestly I wouldn't be buying it. But personally I don't like volvos but thats just me.

There were some 2008 model trucks that were sold with no emissions equipment pertaining to 2008 trucks. That is they had 2007 emissions equipment: just EGR no DPF. I think that is what is meant.

    Good point.

Not on board with this list as a source of problems unique to the Volvo.

That year and model was at the tail end of the instrument cluster problems. Then the D16 issues that other's mentioned. But other then that, I say a Volvo is a solid truck.

My 07 d16 powered 780 was a nice truck for sure but it was a money pit that lived in the shop and service at most Volvo shops was awful....I'd avoid it unless they are giving it away.

Want to make money ? Just Google the Rule of 72. Basically it tells you how long it will take to double your money. At 10% return you can double your money every 7.2 year. So $45,000 become $90,000 and in 14.4 years that doubles to $180,00 at 21years it will double to $260,000 at 28 years you would have $520,000. So let go another 7.2 years and at 35 years $45,000 would be about $1,400,000 if you had it in a Roth IRA that would also be 100% tax free. You can still drive a company truck and you can retire with $1,400,000 just something to think about and you don't even have to work for that 1.4 million your money is making money.

For the past two days, there has been a bunch of breakdowns on the roads around here (I lost count at 11), with an exception of one Mack and one KW that was involved in a fatality yesterday, they have all been volvos. This morning on M14, there sits one on the side of the road, a volvo so it begs the question - are these actually dependable?

    Just saying

    Have you tried it?

Listen to this guy. Trucks on the auction sell for 20-40% less than dealers. My buddy just got a 2010 Pete 389 4 axle tractor with 450k on the clock for 47k at an auction in February. That same truck would be 70k+ at a dealer. Volvos and Freightliners were selling for much cheaper than that, I was there trying to buy a rig as well

Not with that D16 inside of it. Too expensive asking.

I tend to be really shy when a engine has a poor reputation. It's best to stick with strong engines. And that is part of the challenge, you won't see trucks with known good engines on sale too often.

The auction will have the seller pay around 30% of sale price. Sometimes there is no point.

I bought a D13 back in September it's a 2012. I haven't had any major issues with it. Only pad $45,000 for it. The only thing I have realized is the fuel mileage is only 5.6 miles/gal hauling anything over 35,000 lbs. I'm actually getting ready to purchase my second truck. I think I'm going to look at a freightliner cascadia. Automatic. Those automatics seem to get close to 8 MPG at 44,000lbs. I found a 2012 for $39,000. Only 476,000 miles on it

Yeah I have a 401k I started 20 years ago but did not add money for a long time because I tried the o/o thing. I would have been better off being company driver and keeping my 401k going.
