There are pluses and minuses to all... but if you read what the DRIVERS on here say... this statement is correct, and especially if you want homestime...Roehl is it.

i put in for roehl, h.o.w., werner, swift, stevens, transam, usexpress, mcelroy, usa, and covenant. i was shot down by all but stevens, swift, usexpress and mcelroy. dont know yet about transam. due to the fact i was terminated from my job at lafarge...(couldnt be any thing else that i can think of =/ ) and my team partner was also rejected by most of his and the ones who picked him are all different from mine save for swift and i thought stevens. transam is still a mabey, but we are pretty much going to swift. im cool with swift and im going to go into this w/ an open mind. i got bigger worries like finding my way across america, when i have barely left my own state for 40 plus years

That is the right attitude to go with. Once you get your time in and want to switch you have a good company there in Gainsville, least when he was part owner the guy was good to work for when I ran for CPS. But once you get some experience Crane Transport would be a good one, home most weekends.. -
Where exactly is home? Alot of carriers cant get drivers home if they live out in the middle of know where, unless its under a load. Fuel prices arent cheap, but I do understand, drivers need to get home atleast once a month.... Atleast to pay bills. O u c h -

well, it looks as if me and my partner wont be going to swift after all. we will be boardin the greydog to texas this sat. nite. heading to trans-am transport. im really lookin forward to this. ive never been any where west of alabama, north of kentucky,
, or east of charlotte, in all my 47 years. i know its going to get old, but at first its gonna be an adventure of sorts. i`ll keep in touch and give commentary to the induction of another trucker rookie from noob to not so noob. -
I'm in trucking school right now and a Swift recruiter came by this past week. It's $450 per week for the first 4 weeks and then 4500 per week for the last 2 weeks with a trainer. You are then offered OTR or regional (at least out here in Socal) and are assigned a truck. I think you can get local after a year? (can't remember right off hand). Werner is coming next week to the school. Of the two, I'm leaning towards Swift from what i have read here..

There must be some dissent on the 42 day thing, because the guy at our terminal said it was 42 calendar days from the first day on the truck, and that's how long I was on the truck. (Actually 41, since I started on a Sunday and got home on a Saturday)
The $450 a week is divided into a certain amount per day, and you have to send in a qualcomm macro every day to confirm you're on the truck. You only get paid for days where you check in via that, so any day during the 42 you're not on the truck is potential $$$ lost.
You CAN, however, do the macro on a day off, and they won't check. My mentor said he'd give me his address so I could come over and do the macro, but he wouldn't do it for me. I didn't bother since he lived a bit down the interstate and time + fuel would have netted me a loss on the whole thing.
After you finish that, you get a truck *when they have a free one*. Took me about 10 days from end of mentor to first truck, and that was a loaner. 3 days on that, week on loaner #2, then got MY truck, which I have to this day.
