The post office is quasi federal. That makes them free to skirt labor laws.

It was stated earlier that some companies will waive the "experience requirement" and I know it can, and does happen from time to time, but around here I have yet to even remotely get close to getting that requirement waived. 9 times out of 10, employers won't even respond to an email, or continue conversation over the phone once they find out I have less than a year or 2 of experience. Maybe it's the area I'm in, not too sure. But if something doesn't pan out this week, I'll be heading to orientation somewhere on the 24th.

  6. Ok, ..... I called a recruiter today from a help wanted ad on craigslist. I will copy/paste the advertisement below:

The recruiter told me that if I am able to get a letter of recommendation from my instructor, or the director of the program, he will see what he can do to waive the experience requirement.

He also told me that his company contracts freight for Federal Express .. what does this mean?

USPS contract was the best job I've ever had. In the truck one night/ week. Two short trips twice a week. $1000/ week for what was barely 4 days work.

It kills me that that job disappeared. Now I'm in job limbo working 50 plus hours a week local and taking home 750/ week.

Sitting around half the day waiting to get loaded/ unloaded. Sucks.

    USPS was perfect

  9. Maybe I should have clarified I was going to apply as a CDL driver for the PO.

But, I passed my CDL test today - only barely.

I did great on the pre-trip and the range. When I was out driving with an instructor, I did absolutely fantastic - never grinded gears. Different story when I tested :(

I was already nervous because I was supposed to get tested at 10 a.m. I was running late because of an over turned bobtail that was blocking both lanes of traffic right around the corner from my house. Traffic was backed up so far I had trouble getting out of my neighborhood. I already thought an impending disaster loomed as I was 45 minutes late getting there. I texted my instructor when I knew I was going to be late - only to find out I had texted a job recruiter by mistake - oops. I finally was able to contact my instructor, then the director of the program. I thought all was lost .... chances of rescheduling a test are slim to none. The director was very nice and let me take the test late, and it was done within one hour - I had to move quickly. The test before mine took 2 hrs. and 15 minutes. Mine took 50 minutes - I didn't get the score I wanted but I passed.

Some one is giving you wrong information. UPS will hire off the street and even train. USPS runs mainly through contractors; they set the standard on who they hire.

Your ability to drive truck without going OTR depends almost entirely on the location you live in.

That is a 3rd party recruiter ad and I wouldn't touch that job with a 10' pole. Especially in your shoes, I wouldn't waste my time applying for it.

It means he doesn't know a thing he is talking about; he is just wasting your time. Fedex does not wan't meat in the seat that cannot meet their experience requirement, and you don't. Don't waste your time ever talking to this recruiter again.
