No reason it wouldn't be legal. As long as it is secured you are good to go.
DDlighttruck, MJ1657 and IluvCATS Thank this. -
Bungies don't count for securement! Don't ask me why I know that..... but I do.
TequilaSunrise, crb, BigTennOTR and 2 others Thank this. -

Make sure that the lines don't rub on them.
Ke6gwf, Lepton1 and Razororange Thank this. -
As jumbo said, you can secure them on the cat walk, but if the lines drag on them, it's a ticket waiting to happen.

Thx guys. 7-8 timbers are strapped down on the catwalk deck secured to the frame on 2 sides. I raised the airlines up, no touching or dragging.
For some reason I thought the catwalk may technically need to be "clear of objects". One of those CDL school pre/trip 100-checks test things. Maybe it meant loose objects. Meanwhile I see older drivers using this very spot for timbers (of course secured). Positives are I can now stand taller to access items at the top of my headache rack, and my new stepdeck trailer doesn't have a dedicated spot for 4x4s anyways.Ke6gwf, Tug Toy, Lepton1 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Have you thought about chaining them to the front of the deck? Or possibly behind the step on the lower deck? I have ten 8' 4x4's and have used both spots (Depending on what was being loaded) with out much fuss.
HurstDDlighttruck and IluvCATS Thank this. -
Catwalk being clear is an OSHA thing. I've done it in the past, but only as bobtail never with a trailer.
IluvCATS Thanks this. -
Build one of these. About $170 in material. It will hold 15 4x4s.
TequilaSunrise, Ruthless, Chewy352 and 6 others Thank this.
