Picked up a dry van today that had to be persuaded to latch. If a driver doesn't carry a little sledge.... Well, I just don't even know what to say to that.

Most trailers have driver's side door close first and then passengers. The doors overlap and interlock. Is this your problem?
Bent lock rod? Loose latch? I mean everything mechanical is visible on the trailer door. A simple visual inspection of the components will almost always clue you in to the problem. -
In some cases you have to physically lift the door to align things. One one of our trailers it helps if you close both doors at the same time, one pushes against the other in the right spot for things to align.
Since we load off road, on occasion we just have the driver pull forward slowly while we close the door as the trailer is moving. Enough wiggle back and forth to drop the latch
easily.Lepton1 Thanks this.
