I was sitting in a truck stop watching tv one night. A bobtail with straits pulled in next to my sleeper. The noise was so loud, my sleeper vibrated, I could not hear my tv or even sleep. He left after about an hour. What a relief.

I'm going to put a muffle under the truck

Darn!!! lose out again
Been trying to find a set of 6 or 7 inch take offs. I plan on powder coating them so I don't even care if they are pitted

The sound level is going to depend on the size of pipe you use the height and other things. Yes it will be louder but how much will vary alot on those variables. Its personal preference really some people like loud cars some dont its the same thing. Personally I like the sound of a straight 7 inch pipe but my boss wont let me get rid of the muffler. Ive seen trucks with straights you can barely hear at idle and my dad had a freightliner that you could clearly hear the Jakes a mile away (which is why they have no jake laws around here. Its all personal preferance the only exhaust thing I cant stand are the rain caps for the tops .......... that tinging drives me nuts a dump truck at where I work has that I cant stand it.

yeah straight pipe the truck, whats going to be really cool is when you let them jakes roll.sounds nice.just like most of the bullwagons

I have a 1999 Freightliner with a 12.7 Detroit (430/1810) with dual 6" straights. The pipes are 108" long and are not loud at all Except with the Jake's.

Thus the reason for all the of "No Jake Brake" signs. Even though the majority of all the trucks out there have properly muffled exhaust systems the very small minority that don't seem to ruin it for all.Big Duker Thanks this.

this might sound crazy but jus goto napa auto parts, you can get 6 inch exhaust tubing unfinished, then you can kinda do your own thing, thats what i did except i had chrome plated, it took a lot of work to prep them for chrome, but for powder coating you should be good to go! and its a lot cheaper on the pocket book than buying a nice set and then covering them up with paint

6" pipes 108" long at Truck Pro are about $250- That is the best price I found
