That's the kind of question you should be asking on here.

Here goes, the trooper was right, as it sits a double or triple axle 2 car trailer will put you over on your 26k lbs. But, many will derate the trailer gvwr so that the combined gvwr of truck and trailer comes in right at or below 26k lbs, getting you out of IFTA and CDL territory.

Now if it were me, I'd be getting my CDL and a pre egr tractor but that's another topic that you previously disagreed with me on lol

Here it goes Terry I am looking at a 2016 Ram 3500 1 ton dually and a 2016 Kaufman 2 car hauler according to Kaufman site the trailer GVWR is 14,500 and not sure on the Ram yet I plan to buy a goose neck setup with a 30K LB weight rating for the truck. I believe that is sufficiant. The trooper told me when I go to register the truck and trailer to put it at about 40K Lbs to be on the safe side. I think thats about right. My main concern is to stay legal and do whatever it is required by law. If I have to pay IFTA then so be it. I am not going to mess around with altering or fudging any documents weights or what have you. People can call me stupid I don't care. I worked too hard to lose what I got because I want to try and get over on the government. I am quite sure you do everything by the book and stay legal. I am not a seasoned veteran truck driver / owner operator. I worked for companies mostly non-CDL and I had my CDL so I know what I have to do is be legit. I keep daily logs , do pre-trips have my Medical Card, I even keep track of my fuel and when I leave and enter each state on a trip report. I know it sounds stupid but it keeps information accurate and gives me a routine to follow when I start IFTA. 99% of the info you guys give me is great and appreciated and I am not a whiner I just dont have time for some of the other guys Ive seen on here with their kid crap and making jokes about inexperienced people. So any info you can provide me will be taken with appreciation and honestly not a waste of your time Thanks

If you want to give the government more of your hard earned money than you have to then go ahead. Just seems crazy to me.

Another thing, have you run the numbers on how fast that dually will drop in value when the miles pile on? Have fun throwing money away

"The trooper told me when I go to register the truck and trailer to put it at about 40K Lbs tobe on the safeside."

Yeah buddy that sounds good to me....

40, 000lbs with a dodge dually wtf? I'm seeing more and more of these pickups on the road, with 40k gvw stickers on the fender.

It's only a matter of time before one of these idiots crash into a school bus because their "car hauler" lost it's electric trailer brakes.

Maybe then the d.o.t. will take notice.

I was a bit taken back by that too because I don't see me pulling 40K lbs of weight so I am a bit confused to say the least about why so much weight. I do see 3500 duallys pulling 5 car Mini's a lot down here so I would say the truck could handle it

    Hi,
Who did you find to let you use the truck to test? My husband has his CDL A, but has restrictions and needs to test to get them removed. It was suggested to us to rent a truck just for the test too. We are also in NC. Thanks in advance.
