Nice recommendation. Looking them up has also brought up Old Dominion Freight. OD has hired newly grads with an approved school certificate, which I also have. I'll give them a call today.

They were my first choice out of school. Unfortunately, my school wasn't up to their standards. Ill give them a call to see if they're interested. When I met the terminal manager in person, she was quite adamant about the 1 year experience.

So maybe it was for the best that I blew the same job with CTL in Savannah you had. What's been up since January?

Not much. We are down to 3 drivers, including I.

The past month I've been averaging about 2800 miles a week and grossing around $1300. I seem to make substantially more than the CT, and local CTL drivers. It should be known that most drivers I've talked to with CTL have boundaries or restrictions, for example, "I don't run the mountains or north of TN/NC." or "I gotta be home every 10 days out." -- OTR CTL drivers.....

Its an easy going place to get your experience and not be pushed hard.

For me, it's not enough. The work ethic at CTL is low. I'm no where near my limits and I know thats potential income I'm not taping. I want consistent fat pay checks. Thats why I'll be leaving in July once I get my year in.

@I'm not a robot, Long lost twin. Welp! It's official.. I'm set to attend CTL's orientation next week and I'm eager to learn more. I've been following your journey and would like to know if there's any updates? I noticed that your average miles bounced backed from that rough patch you were experiencing previously... Would you say that things have gotten better, worsened, remained the same, or does it fluctuate? Also, as of now, what are your averages? Mile, Gross, Net.. per week. And can you give insight on how to operate within the terminal to maximize miles.. and pay? @GoldenLad what are your experiences? Thanks in advance!

Also.. I don't think it's too late to put down a referral. Just throwing that out there. Not sure if that's proper forum etiquette but hey I'll do whatever I can to help.

It's against forum policy to ask for referrals or include links and driver information. You are offering one and not asking for half of it so that's fine. It's better to use the private message system for this sort of thing.

Port City, sorry I just checked back. Hope your orientation is going well. I'm no longer at CTL (due to family needs), but while I was there I had few complaints. Trucks are nice, tons, tons of miles (more than I could handle as a family man), and I had a pretty good trainer. They ran us hard for 50 days straight, I'm talking a little team driving, running recap a bit, so that we never did a reset. Just your 10 hour. It was an eye opener. You can cover a lot of ground that way and make a lot of loads, but its hard on a newbie. I will say the auto was a life saver for me. My first load was from Reserve, LA in new Orleans up to Kenilworth NJ. From there we picked up in Pittsburgh and went to Chicago. Boy I tell you, if I'd been shifting through all that traffic I'd probably had a heart attack.
I was only on my own for a couple weeks before I had to quit, but I ran about 2300 miles each week. Used every minute I had. If I was a single man, I'd still be there because the money would've been good a rookie. Good luck.
