Ok @craig_sez I just watched your video. And @rabbiporkchop and @volvo244t are not yankin' your chain. Your "pole" is going to act as the shaft of your antenna in this configuration. You would have to insulate it with plastic which will be almost impossible in this setup unless you get a long plastic spacer that runs through the pole and the bolts never touch the pole.
Personally in this setup I think your best bet would be to just use a mirror mount attached to the pole and run it that way. Because using that long of a shaft plus, coils is going to be a nightmare to find the sweet spot. -
I dont understand though...For the most part nothing has changed except the location of the coil..Rather that it being on a lil piece of flat bar a cpl inches away from the pole it now a direct connect to pole.....The ground point and feed points are near one another which is now NOT 40" apart and will still have an ant stud on the bottom with plastic washer to connect my coax to..
-
The difference is the pole is acting as the shaft of the antenna. You are putting the feedpoint at the bottom of that pole using a ring terminal coax connection for the center conductor and the another for connecting to ground correct? That makes that entire pole "hot".
Where by using a mirror mount on the pole to mount the antenna you would be using a standard so-239 mount which would insulate the antenna shaft from ground. -
No..keeping the typical coax type connection...Basically adding a hd stud at the bottom to connect coax with..
At the bottom where i layed the short piece of threaded stud is connection point same as any other ant mount..Attached Files:

But you are still grounding out the "shaft" (pole) because you have two bolts running through it into the mirror bracket. You would have to ground the antenna BELOW the feed point in order for the antenna to A.) Work properly and not fry your radio. B.) To provide the antenna a ground plane.
It would be no different than running a ground strap under the base of an antenna shaft on a mirror mount bracket to the body of the truck. It's a direct short.rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
So feed point has to be higher than ground point??...With all my surfin thats one point i never saw or noticed..So my set up would still work if i had a lil block moulded on the lower shaft above the ground for my feed point??
Cause other than that everything else is basically the same -
Yes basically. Let me try and draw something up to show you what I mean in a picture.rabbiporkchop Thanks this.

Or i can maybe just use some plastic/rubber washers to seperate the pole from the mount and bolts of the mirror mount..
-
I know my drawing abilities suck but does this help clear it up??
