Don't know the history. Spread is not that difficult. People make it out to be harder than it really is.

A spread, when loaded you definitely have to get a habit of dumping the rear axle air bags. From now till forever, just dump them on every turn. Not every curve, but every right or left turn. Its hard on the tires to not and you get into the habit of dumping them without thinkin about it.

Its also easier to turn when the rear axle isnt reducing the trailers turning radius.

CT, no spreads on 53ft. Rember to close them to be legal at 34,000 on closed tandems when traveling tnrough CT.

Otherwise open spreads are legal to 40,000, but refer to your atlas for each state for legal confirmation.

Dont put the rear ratchet to close to the rear axle, when you dump the air bags while loaded, you'll eat that tire with the ratchet. Go ahead ask me how I know.

You need to make wider turns, and slower. When looking back to see how your trailer is tracking, look at the 4th axle tires to make sure they are spinning and not dragging sideways across the ground. You can rip them right off the wheels if you aren't careful. Backing is much the same way, you will probably 45 instead of 90 degree, but sometimes you just have to do a 90 at some places.

    Take your #### time.

Hmm didn't know you could close the spread. Thought they were fixed. From what I was told they got step decks 48 spreads and 53 spreads but mostly 48s

Some are fixed, if they arent, they can be closed.

Ive never taken a spread to CT, but I load closeable spreads for CT sometimes. Have to make them legal.
With that I honestly dont know what the non closeable spreads do it CT. Like the guys with tool boxes between axles.
