IMG_1821.JPG Im writing this as for a problem i have on a regular basis. Dealing with spread axles at the cat scales. Its pretty rare that i get weighed right the first time. Other times its usually 3 times weighing. I tell them what i have to do on my end however unsure of what they need to do on there end.

Curious as to what i need to tell them through the speaker as most cashiers dont get training othet than to weigh the one shot tandem setup.

This issue has gotten me pissed off more times than i can count and one cashier i almost went rounds with because she's "weighed 100's of trailers" before. Told her that may be true but you clearly dont know how to weigh a spread axle flat bed.

Anymore i just walk away and tell the cashier the weights arent right. Over the last week i slacked a bit which leads me to tonight where i got caught with my pants down and over grossl and on the spread axles. Bills say 43k. Drives are at 32 spread of course over 40. Just got one ticket instead of 3. But still. Ticks me off when others cant do their job i cant do mine. Wonder how complicated it would be to add the spread axle option the cat scale app and never have to deal with another ignorant or lazy cashier.

Ill post a pic of a weigh i did a couple weeks back. To illustrate of what im talking about.

Its nice to get free coffee for the aggrivation but it doesnt stop your clock from ticking.

What are you trying to do. Weigh each axle.. when you pull onto the Cat scale, they have 3 platforms. One weighs the steer the next drive and 3rd one weighs the rear axle group.

When you pull onto the scale and the voice on the other end asks. tell them you need a split scale.

On the box they use inside has a choice, they have to choose the split option.

It has full instructions as to what needs to be done.

If they just dont seem to get it. have them call the help desk service number.

they will get a person to provide step by step instructions to doing a split scale weigh.

Tell them first weigh need a split axle scale, after tell them truck number tell them how you want to do it, for you tell them I want to do platform 1 and 2 first then I will move to 2nd position. Then after move and put your 1st trailer axle on platform 2 and 2nd axle on platform 3 tell them you want platform 2 and 3 and are done.

Save the phone number for catscale and if any issues call them and ask to speak to a scale technician and they will call the truck stop and walk them through how to do it properly.

Sometimes they still have issues, so do a first weigh and get your ticket then get back on scale for a reweigh and put your drives on platform 1 and spread on platform 2 and 3.

Spent an hour trying to get a split weigh so I could check that my flip was set right last Friday. They were confused because it wasn't a spread or multi axle setup. Took 3 tries and 2 employees to explain that the 3rd axle on my trailer was on its own leveling setup before they would do it.

Like i said im aware of how to weigh the truck/trailer and split on pads 2 and 3. Thats not the issue. Even explain the two phase operation and what pads i need weighed.

Its how they handle the screens. Those two tickets is one load weighed at 2 separate locations. Neither one being right. Cant say what happened with the ticket on the left, however the one on the right is more than likely right as the 4th line on the side adds to the gross instead of listing it as a axle weight.

I don't even screw with trying to explain it to them, I just pull on get a gross then go in and tell them I want a reweigh before I pay so I can see the first ticket and get the number. Then I go back out and put my axles on the plates that I want and reweigh. It's less confusing for everyone involved.

That's true especially with some of these smaller truckstop's, that's a good point.
