Hi,
I feel you, I myself have a CDL A but without OTR nobody will hire you locally or otherwise.
Have had it for 15 years, the first 5 years I used it the last 10 I only maintain it, since my job last job was a IT-Communication Technician.
So currently relearning to drive a Truck again....lol
Here are opportunities you might look into:
Automatic Truck Jobs
RAIDER EXPRESS is an ALL AUTOMATIC FLEET
2 Week Orientation if you got your CDL, to train you on the Automatic Truck.
Or if you dont have a CDL.
They have their own CDL A School, no cost to you.
Free Room and Board.
PLUS PAID TRAINING.
With CDL $600
Without CDL $1000

Also Melton Truck Lines, they train you on standard/manual trucks but they have Automatic....after training you can request an Automatic.
(You must have your CDL A, before applying and have attended a Certified CDL A School or have 3 months of OTR)
Their whole Fleet is moving to Automatics, because of better fuel milage.

Not to be a ###, but you do NOT require otr experience to be a local driver. That is a falsehood pushed by recruiters
