Go into trucking; it's a good fit for old military men. There's lots of trucking jobs where you don't have to touch freight; just drive.
    Where is your location?

I would talk to these folks first:
    http://www.knighttransport.com/
Ask if Dale is still there. An impressive, genuine lady who you will want to speak with.

If that doesn't suit you, you could try these folks:
    http://www.go-vetrans.com/
Have no personal or truck stop scuttlebutt about them.

Good luck and thanks for your service.

Alabama, but looking at a move to Mississippi, (Wife, kids and grandchildren)

Wife would be down for a year or so or more OTR, (four or five weeks out, four or five dAys home) + moving to Mississippi (Macomb, Brookhaven off IS 55)

The Spartan, minimum lifestyle living in A truck ~ out of a truck suits me fine. I'm used and accustomed to bring alone.

Wife is accustomed acquainted with family men being gone off to work in the Gulf on oil rigs or tow boats pushing barges on the rivers.

I'm already working 12+ days a week. Gross with a low ball of about $40k high ball of about $49k + My retirement pay of $21k.

The wife earlier out on Social Security. She's on Medicaid + with my military TeiCare as secondary. Zero out of pocket for her.

I'm TriCare prime for medical insurance, doctor's visits $12, prescription co~pays $6. Monthly premiums for me? $26 a month.

    Goals?

    Maximize income

    Minimize living expenses

    Debt eradication

    Savings

    Good health

Good driving record other than I caught a DUO five years five months back, (I kid you not, I wasn't even driving, but caught sitting behind the wheel with the keys in the ignition - long story, unemployed at the time, didn't have the $$$$ to fight it) Pleaded out to a misnomer DUI, (So they tell me, don't trust it, will have to do due diligence prior to pursing CDL, don't want to get my ### hanging in the wind)

Realize I've got to earn my spurs and stripes, and that trucking is HARD work mentally, emotionally. And possibly physically.

Not for the simple nor weak minded ~ hearted.

Understand reading forums, watching YouTube videos, classroom classes, films, PowerPoint presentations = Maybe 5% of what you need to know. Other 95% + comes fron getting in, SHTFU, listening, paying attention, being hyperviglent, cautious, paying attention, and working your ads off to get to the other side fro m greenhorn, to proficient, to competent, to professional.

    Any thoughts appreciated.

    Thanks

Join the military when you're 17 and retire when you're 37 with a pension for life.

Here's some ideas and I recommend you apply to several, then make a decision from the job offers. Keep in mind, the hiring areas may not be up to date, so apply to all of them. For example, FFE hired a guy in New Jersey even though they say they only hire in TX, IL, MS. So, if you like these companies that have CDL training, apply.
    FFE (Frozen Food Express)
    KLLM (owns FFE)
    Celadon
www.cfidrive.com is a dry van company with pretty good reputation.
