I'm just curious if you dislike them so much why are you still with them after 5/6 years?

Not sure I understand this complaint, since when are there shifts for an OTR driver. You pick up and deliver when appointments are scheduled, learn to plan accordingly. One run I may pick up at noon on Wed, deliver at 6 am Fri, then pick up next load at midnight and NEVER been late. After 6 years you would think you would have a grasp on clock management, utilizing split shifts, etc. If you want a 9-5 with no bothering during beauty sleep, I am sure a local fast food joint is hiring. Some people are happier complaining about how others are screwing them than figuring out how to be efficient at their jobs.

Thankfully I don't work for Swift anymore, but they would pull this exact garbage. I would be 4 hours into sleeping and the qualcomm would wake up with a bunch of messages from some moron in Phoenix telling me to accept the preplan. I always seemed to get great loads while I was asleep only to wake up to them being taken off me in favor of some 300 mile sh*tty load. So glad I don't have to deal with those people anymore.

Somewhere along the line I must have missed the memo that says OTR drivers work day or night shift only...

Now, first off, I don't and have never worked for Werner. Second, I know that some load planners can be total #####.

But...as an OTR driver, one should realize that there really is no day shift or night shift. You run when freight is available. Just last week (my final week as an OTR/regional driver) I had to pull off two different 8 hour "starts" of split sleeper breaks in order to pick a load in the evening after delivering in the morning. Anyway, to get back on point, an OTR driver can and will pick and deliver freight at odd times with no real regard to set sleeping schedules. It's part of the job.

    To the op (Davezilla)...
Since you are with Werner, and they have a lot of dedicated accounts, is there any way you can get off of true OTR and get onto one of them? They may offer a better, more consistent schedule than a random dispatch, irregular route fleet

so glad I left that dumpster fire.

If the did that crap to me, I'd go to bed turn the qualcomm and the phone off and I'd be there first thing in the morning. Don't like it? dont shedule me late at night.

Your dispatcher cant fire you either. Only Safety can. So stand up to them.

Otherwise I suggest you get on a dedicated account with a morning start time.

    Werner OTR is straight garbage.

Werner gets a lot of rehires.I left Werner because of the load planners and I went back a month later because I missed my dispatcher but it got far worse and then I left for good. But in the ops case 6 yrs is along time to put up with the load planners I couldn't have done that.I was there total 3 yrs and that was too long.

Type one time. Im asleep for 10 hours logged. Nothing moves until that sleep time is finished. Even a stack of qualcomm messages. Nothing at all.

They will probably make you sit ten days on no miles in retaliation. That is why you have savings to get you the time you need to find another company.

There are corection laws against fleet dispatchers kicking drivers to do things when they are supposed to be in rest period asleep. Or trying to get you to run out of hours. One little word "No." Repeat and reapply that word as necessary. Document everything.

I dont do well with stupid dispatchers who like abuse. Nor do I stay long. I'll move on. And they wonder why they have to go through so many because they fail so badly at dispatching.

with Werner I'd get dispatched on a nice 1500 mile run only to have the worthless jerks in NetOps commandeer my load at 600 miles.

The 2nd time that happened I shut the qualcomm and phone off and kept driving long past the swap point. As a result I sat in west texas with no freight all weekend till my dispatcher came in on Monday. He paid me $100 for each of the two days and laughed when he found out that I took a leak in NetOps' cheerios and said good job.
