Trucking Jobs in 30 seconds
Every month 400 people find a job with the help of TruckersReport.

When you talked to them did you find out how much it was?
-
Don't remember for sure and I threw out my questionnaire once I found out I didn't qualify due to school hours. For some reason .11/mile comes to mind. This was the only negative mark against J&R in my book. I was looking for something that was optional so I didn't have to take it.
-
I really want to find a company where it is optional BUT to get some experience I can endure it for the first year. 11 cents seems to be the average based on what I have been seeing during my research.
-
That's what I've been finding as well. I'd rather handle the per diem myself through exemptions. Not interested in lowering my gross and therefore effecting my ssi and disability.MidwestResident and wfutch79 Thank this.
-
Exactly how I feel too. A lot of these "starter companies" have forced per diem, sucks but I guess that is what we have to deal with to get that experience under our belts.
-
Found a local outfit that has optional. Posted a couple pics of one their "Freedom Trucks". The thread is still on the front page.

After doing some soul searching and a little more research I think I might want to go dry van to start off with. It does seem like easy work, you do not have to constantly check your reefer unit and hear it while you are trying to sleep. Decisions, Decisions ....

Lepton1 Thanks this. -
I came to the same conclusion for a couple reasons. I'm a fairly light sleeper and dont want to risk not getting any sleep with the generator running right behind the sleeper. Plus didn't think I would like waiting all the time for loading and unloading. Miles equal cash.

Having done (and continue to do) both, the only way I would voluntarily pull reefer is if it paid by the hour.
The noise you sort of get used to and it isn't too much of a hassle to occasionally look in your mirror and see if you still have a green light on the display but the hours and hours wasted at cold storage warehouses will never sit well with me as long as I am being paid per mile driven.
