Prime hiring area?

It's not ridiculous for the trucking company to WANT a new driver to lease a truck. It's ridiculous for the new driver to agree to lease a truck. The company has a duty to do what is best for them. If you could find someone that would agree to pay most of your bills you should sign them up right away. They should protect themselves.

Ask her about Nevada; most OTR companies hire in Nevada.

If CRST can hire me even though I'm almost 8 hours away from the nearest terminal there is no reason a company says no to hire you because of hometime

Sounds like they're just trying to pull one over on you. What difference does it make if you're a company driver or lease OP? You still have to get home once in a while. I guess because you'll be paying for the fuel as a L/P they agree to it.

Yeah I assume that it's because I would be paying my own way back home in fuel as well as for the whole truck and maintenance. I think I will email the head of recruiting, just so I know for sure that the answer I get is the real deal. I think it's BS that they claim to hire from all 48 but if you live in certain areas you only get hired if you agree pay their bills for them by signing a huge contract you don't even have the experience to understand. Where I take my home time isn't a big deal to me so I'm hoping I can just sign away my expectation of being routed to Washington for any time off.

Why not move to Missouri? This is a great state to live in, cost of living is decent and lot's of activities (fishing, hunting, Branson, Bass Pro and much much more) around for your off time! I moved here from Arizona 20 years ago and love it here.

I'm sure Missouri is a great state! St.Louis is on my travel list for sure. I would only move to get hired as a company driver though, not necessarily to spend time there. I'm thinking Nevada because they don't have an income tax, just like Washington. They are pretty cheap as well, other than sales tax (still cheaper than Seattle though!) Since I plan on pretty much living out of the truck, I don't want to pay taxes for a state I'll hardly be in. Also being a northwesterner I can't do without mountains, so if/when I take time off you'll likely find me in Colorado, Montana(if I can get there), Wyoming, Nevada, and California!

    Three points to consider.
    1. Recruiters lie.
    2. Brand new drivers should not lease.
    3. Recruiters lie.

I agree, like I've said I'm not leasing under any circumstances! I understand it's a scam. I've also been an independent contractor for 7 years, I'm more than ready to become an employee again and leave the headache of taxes, 1099s and business behind.

I just went over my recruiters head to directly email Andrea Mueller the head of Prime recruiting and media to see if this truly is the only option. If they really are all telling potential students who have zero trucking experience they must sign a lease contract worth tens or hundreds of thousands or they won't be hired. I'll update this thread with what she has to say in case this issue comes up for anyone else down the line. I'm not sure how I feel about Prime anymore, but I want an answer on record.
