I hear a lot, OH, when I was a kid I always liked trucks, I want to see the country, but when everything sets in MONEY, and BILLS , MORTGAGE, HEALTH INSUR. OH, NO, I cant live on that.......

 

It will be significantly more than that

I agree, the industry isn't what it used to be but seriously not everyone has the mechanical aptitude to be a skilled tradesman. I was a driver of sorts pretty much my whole working career and most likely will be until I retire.

Keep in mind where the OP lives, Florida. His only other option is going to work in fast food or a gas station for $9 an hour.

 

Thanks. My wife has a very good high paying job. At .39/mile (.41 with bonuses), I don't even have to avg 2000/week to make sure everything is covered and then some.

 

Just don't get any Tickets, Accidents, Incidents. I went almost 43 Years and HIT NOTHING, NO TICKETS, NO INCIDENTS. Boss says to me, Driving In Downtown Chicago,and near by suburbs these days is 3 times harder than years ago. Now why whould he say something like that? Every day in Chicago and suburbs , there is a Truck Wreck.

 

That's Great but your the bread winner, that's the rule of thumb. My wife and I , she, already retired, both of us are retiring from Major pharmaceutical drug companies. We are doing great. Hope the best for you also. Good luck, Stay safe.
