So I was at the dealer today picking up some filters. I figured since I was there to grab some trans fluid too and when I get some time to replace it. I asked him for 50wt trans oil. He said that Chevron or Eaton, he wasn't sure, now recommends 75w90 syn trans oil, not gear oil. He said all the 50wt was pulled back by Chevron and he didn't have any. The oil he has now is Delo Syn-Trans XE SAE 75w90. Of course I didn't buy any since I want to do by research. What's the story here? Anyone else heard this?

Here's what the 75w90 looks like. I even checked Chevron's website and they don't even list the 50wt any more.
I went ahead and e-mailed Chevron to get some answers. If I get a response I will post it.

That reminds me of this: When I was a kid I was at the feed store with my dad. He was talking to a rep from the feed company when a customer came in and wanted to buy a salt block. Customer said he was not sure if he needed a white or a red block and that he had heard different things. Oh you defienty should use a white salt block this time of year. Sold the deal and the customer left. Rep asked how is it you were able to give that advise so quicking without anymore information from the customer? Simple, we are out of the red ones today.

I know what you mean and I hate when a salesperson tries to sell me on something I don't need or want. However I don't think this is the case here. I've been dealing with the same parts sales person at my local KW dealer for a while and he's straight up. It's also funny that the SAE 50 is not showing on the Delo website anymore.

On a second look I found 50wt showing on Delo's website under off-highway/industrial so it must be still available. Not sure if the 75w90 is intendended for newer transmission as a means to improve fuel mileage perhaps.

That would make it worse fuel economy.

I thought SAE 50 is thicker than API 75w90.

Don't know? That should have had a question mart after it I guess. lol I would think 50 would be thinner than 75 90? I replaced my trans in January and used 50 synthetic approved by Eaton for the warranty. I think it was Mobil?

sae 50 is a totally different rating system than api 75-90 i believe they are actually pretty close in viscosity.
