Just a question I can not find an answer to easily unless it's in that 900+ page behemoth of a thread but is it better to wait for an opening in the DC of preference or get into the system at any DC (assuming I have housing available with friends or family or whatever) and transfer to my preferred one?
Question, I apologize if it's been asked

I'd wait. I guess it depends on how much it's gonna take you to relocate, but I'd never do it. I work here now, it's great, but I'd never pick up stakes to work here. Just my opinion. We had 2 in orientation not make it 6 mos, one moved like you're suggesting, it really put him in a bind.

I'm OTR now and live in the truck so I wouldn't really be relocating, more locating. My current "home" is a relative's mailing address so I'm thinking a year somewhere wouldn't be too bad if it makes the end game easier. Does Wal-Mart only run regional/local and leave the OTR stuff to the third party companies?

No, I rarely see my D.C. Again until my go home day. I'm out of Iowa and just did a Kansas city, then Loveland Colorado tour

You'll probably more than likely be slip seating, so when it's time to go home, you have to completely clean out. We currently have 15 doing that. I do it because I'm on a 6/3, where 3 guys share 2 trucks. The home time is nice. Insurance is far reaching, but not very cheap. Lotta rules to follow. I'm just glad I don't run illegal like I used to. I make my good money legally. Usually 60-65 hrs in 6 days. Hard to run my 70 out with this new computer dispatch deal.

If you get in, best advice, don't change your life at all. Don't make any new major purchases for at least a year so you can experience all 4 seasons of busy, slow, and dormant. There's more $, but uncle Sam takes a ton, along with the benefits coming out, and saving for these crazy deductibles.
