Man I am glad to see this post Brickman! I am right now this very week applying to run with Landstar! I have been running regional, alot around TX but am needing to go "OTR" again because of my wifes family back in TN having some health issues and she needs to get back there every once in awhile to see them. Thanks for posting this for sure!

Can I ask loads of questions about Landstar to you or will that be a problem?

Please let me know and Thanks again!

As a matter of fact my main reason for joining this forum and the Truckers Report website was to specifically find out about Landstar! I am glad to hear that there are "veterans" who have been at Landstar to help "newbies" aspiring to get to Landstar!

No problem, fire away. There are several current LS BCOs on this forum and a former like myself. One of us is bound to have the answer, or at least THINK we do. :biggrin_25525:

Hey I think I have really good insurance, a million commercial auto liability, complete full coverage etc. Is that good enough because I am applying or in the process of getting approved right now and am considering whether it is better off to have my own authority and as you say "register" your truck with them to run?? What do you think?

Whats the costs of obtaining your own authority? Is it worth the headache and would it necessarily be better than just leasing onto someone like Landstar?

I would just run with LS, having your own authority coming in would be the only reason I would have gotten it.

Million dollar is what everyone carried I thought.

    A jar of Vasoline......

    Just kidding.

They will have you all set up with a Hotel room and one meal a day.

If you have your Plates and numbers you could put them on so that you will be ready to pull a load when you get done.

I had to wait a day because my plates were late.

    Have fun and be safe.

Can you tell me if there are enough Landstar loads to justify purchasing a flatbed or should I purchase a van? I have experience with both but will pull a flatbed if they can keep me busy.

you can always stay busy with a flat

but rates suck right now all around, van is always lower than flat
$2/m gross is gettin rare in flats....but !.30/m gross is really rare for vans now

maybe next year will be better

if it gets worse we are all in for a world of hurt

    Big Duker Thanks this.
