I understand that going out with a trainer is a necessary evil. I can understand that they want to pay me a starvation "training wage" while I'm with a trainer.

What I can't abide is the companies that want to sent me through their CDL mill at my own expense, before I get in the truck.

End of rant. Now please excuse me, I have three more applications to finish.......:)

You have experience and even though it isn't recent it you still have it..
One thing you may want to try, just to give yourself some time in the seat and recent experience is to go to a staffing agency that provides recruiting and staffing for some trucking companies....
They are often in need of drivers willing to work temporary assignments, also often do temp to hire for companies.

They may be able to get you in the seat behind the wheel so you can get some recent experience.

Ooops, tscottme, pgnd3r and 1 other person Thank this.

I have been researching CDL schools near me and found one about 40 miles away so no problem traveling that. The video mentioned night classes, which is what I would probably have to do since I can't afford to up and quit my job for at least 4 weeks. The website says classes are from 7am to 5:30pm and I work 9-5 now. Guess I will have to call and get all the details.

Great suggestion, thanks. Don't know if anything like that exists around here though but will have to check it out, never heard of that for trucking companies but must be like the agency our plant uses to fill empty spots but hope they don't use the same people as some of the ones we get. Haha. Pretty much if you have a pulse or can just stand there you have a job. LOL...

Thank you and I totally agree about the prevalence of negativity. Seems the world is filled with people that either feed your soul or suck away life force like a black hole. I do my best to be the former. ;-)

Oh and just FYI... I did overlook your post at first because you didn't either quote my post or put the "@" sign before my name. If you do one of those things it alerts me that someone has either quoted me or has thanked me. It's customary to write @XKI to, for example, draw that person's attention for whatever reason. The most common use is when there is a known expert on this forum in a particular subject and you want that person to enter the thread and respond.

Sorry if that was a bit long-winded. ;-)
