2006 Freightliner Columbia with Eaton 3 pedal auto shift.
I have a bad TCU harness. The one that goes from TCU to battery box and the other one from TCU to ECU.

Do I need to take down the driver's side fuel tank in order to get access to the harness or there is some other way?

Still have the plate in the floor ? If so that is the way to get to all the wiring.
How many miles on the truck ?
Check and clean all your grounds before you spend any money !

I already replaced the X-Y shifter by removing this plate, but to get to the TCU, which is mounted on the left side of the gear box, I need access on the left side....truck is now 950 000 miles....

The code 17 for bad harness, I got by checking with Service ranger 4.0.....

Just remove plate for easy access to harness. Attached with many zip ties, so have good cutters ready.

From the hole on the floor, you can only replace the top harness of the x-y shifter...

TCU wires come off from hole in floor. TCU unbolts from under left side and comes out from above.

Just wondering what are your transmission issues ?
I learned that all the wiring and transmission parts are the same regardless of truck manufacture.

Mine started out like it was lost and did not know what gear to go to up or down. When it was wet out it was even worse. Then started to drop out of gear as I was moving this problem is very common but few have any idea as to how to fix it. The dealers have no clue and just replace everything and hope it works.
Replaced all the sensors first their cheap and easy
